Path of Exile 2

So glad I didn't bother with the early access. It's clearly still has a long way to go, has a fair few problems, and I haven't thrown my new player experience away for a playthrough of a game that's a fraction of how good it will be at offical launch.

Sounds promising. Gives me time to wait for a new GPU in Q1 whilst things get tweaked. Thinking an 8800XT and 4K OLED monitor could be on the shopping list for 2025.

Watched a few vids of this on YouTube just to see what the fuss is about and not seeing the appeal. Guess the fun lies in the multiple layers of character customisation?

1. Copy the text from above.
2. Go into the game, then into the options.
3. Go into the "Game" tab
4. Press the folder icon next to "Item filter" (on the far-right)
5. Make a new text file in there called anything you want, but make sure you change the extension to ".filter"
6. Paste all the text in there and save
7. Go back into the game and press the item filter drop down box
8. Choose your filter, then press the reload button just next to it on the right.

It might take a few seconds for your filter to appear. If it doesn't, make sure you created your filter file in the right folder, and make sure you changed the extension to .filter

Knocked up a quick item filter if anyone wants it. Nothing fancy, but works :) Highlights the good stuff, hides most wearable "white" (normal) items, except for rings/amulets/belts. Hopefully NeverSink will have his out in a few days.

It’s a decent game but not really understanding the hype so far. I’m sure those who understand the fundamentals a bit more can see the potential.

Yes, I think a lot of the more experienced players are looking towards the mapping/endgame part of it I think. A lot of people don't see the game starting until the acts are done.

Being one of those people myself, I can't disagree with some of the issues people are having with the acts however, it definitely needs tweaking. The campaign for me was always the tutorial. I know it's long for POE2 but am hoping once it's learnt we'll be able to fly through it. I always approached it like a speed run section, challenging myself to beat my time each season.

Up into the middle of act 3, still very much enjoying it, but there are things that need to be tweaked now that I've got a few hours under my belt.

I think the currency drops and shard rewards from vendors need to be upped by a good amount. There's just not enough for the approach they've taken with the minimalist loot drops, you either need a steady stream of good loot options dropping or the ability to make your own during a campaign and it doesn't feel like it's there on either front.

I feel like they're missing something with this uncut gem system, like the ability to craft multiple of the same tier with a vendor for a gem one level higher or something, or even combine them with weapons to imprint them.

I think the difficulty is being over exaggerated and I don't understand the Dark Souls references people are coming out with, it's absolutely nothing like it in any way? It is however a little over tuned on the HP side of things and I can understand how it might rear it's head more so in different builds/circumstances. It makes it feel slow at times, kind of like when you first start off in D2. It's not bad it just needs some careful adjustments to find a better balance.

I wonder if they've changed how they were going to release this a couple of times, like if the original plan was just for the 3 acts, then they went for 6, but then changed back to just 3. The experience curve and monster scaling has probably shifted multiple times as they've moved back and forth.

Its interesting that you mention this, out of my circle of friends the general pattern that I'm seeing is that those who didnt invest much time in PoE1 are liking PoE2 more. The comments from my friends that did put time into PoE1 are all the same - that its too slow, its taking too long to fight stuff and that they are coming off the back of PoE1 where they can press a button and obliterate entire screens of mobs and move on quickly. Whether thats an issue with PoE2 or an issue with those friends not adapting to it being a "different" game to the one they are used to or not, or a combination of both, is a whole other question. So far thats the pattern between my friends, the ones who didnt play PoE1 much are liking this more than those who did.

I am actually enjoying/preferring the slower pace with the combat, it's a nice change from the blowing through screens of monsters at once, though I do agree that the HP is over the top atm. By fly through the campaign I meant more in the sense that we'll know which quests to skip, what routes to take etc etc, which'll in turn make us able to get through the campaign quicker and to the good stuff :)

Are there any mods to change the UI? Default UI sucks hard and there is almost no options to change it in the settings. I'd also like to see damage numbers.

Oh and what's up with being able to pause the game, that seems super lame

I don't know what you're so annoyed with the UI. It's mostly similar to POE1 with a few updates.
The only thing I don't like is the flavourless stash tabs, but I'm putting that down to an mtx resourcing issue and they'll be updated later.

PoE2 is the greatest ARPG of all time and it's only in early access.
What am I missing for it to have this title?

Gameplay feels clunky, it’s not particularly difficult due to good mechanics, it’s just enemies are all health sponges to create artificial difficulty.

Graphically it’s ok nothing special. UI is awful and looks about 39 years out of date.

If this is classed as the greatest of all time then the genre has a very low bar.

I genuinely think if this didn’t have POE in the title it would be a flop. Brand loyalty is one hell of a drug.

If you spent over 450 USD in poe1 you get free access.
Also streamers are doing giveaways and some are selling poe1 items for ea keys (not sure if legit way)

well it just feels like a laggy D2 clone at the moment. Really dont see the appeal, but fair play to people enjoying it.
I started a sorcerer but there is just no crowd control, so mobs rush you and you end up toe to toe with them anyway, might of just played a tank. it just feels "old". Identify scrolls and potions that run out. D4 had its own issues, but it made the UI and quality of life pretty good. I'll give this a couple of patches to see where it goes, but struggling to "get it" at the moment.

The only thing Diablo 4 does better then this game so far is the cutscenes  and it’s only in early access!

Being able to equip any 2 weapons (as long as you have the requirements), so in affect you can use 2 classes abilities is brilliant, so many different combinations.

Currently a mercenary but also got a quarterstaff with the frost & bell abilities from the monk :D

Just about the wisdom scrolls, you can speak to
The Nameless One
to identity everything for you.

I agree with you about the range issue though. I've played a Witch and a Ranger, and I'm constantly in melee getting thrown around like a rag doll. Might as well just play melee :p

Game has crashed a couple times and each time it makes me start the game over - I play 20 mins, crash and then I have to start at the beach again... lame is this normal?

Only if you have not gotten off of the beach in 20 minutes which would be a surprise.

As for crashing I have had 0 on my steam deck so try Vulkan rather than dx12.
