Path of Exile(diablo clone)

Game has been in beta for years and each account can have around 25 chars. People have multiple accounts too, so they can trade and fight at the same time (plus for storage).

I've generally been using a firstname-lastname method,

e.g. Mockingbird_Bowmistress; Mockingbird_gutstabber; Mockingbird_crapbuild and so on.

helps me keep track of the different toons/builds I'm trying.

Still looks less idiotic than half the names on the server.

Not true, sorry!

I started the download on steam.

Exit Steam

It will create a folder in the 'downloading' steam folder. Usually all numbers but one of the first files it creates is PathOfExileSteam.exe so you should be able to find it.

Copy your Path of Exile install into that folder.

Reload steam

Reduced my download from 6-7gb to the 2gb for the patch.

i dunno mate, i re-downloaded the whole thing and on the download screen it said 2.5gb to download without doing it your way ;)

i might be wrong but steam showed 6gb or so folder size but in the download screen it showed 2.5gb

Ah I see, the compression has fooled me it seems :)

Either way got it done last night, possibly get a game tonight if I can pull myself away from Dota2

This is a great game. Made greater by the fact it is free.

The way the micro transactions work is perfect.

Extra goodies, but nothing that actually effects the playing of the game.

Well worth buying a premium stash bundle, gives the team the support they definitely deserve and gives you some useful features.

Well Nemesis just caught upto me... been playing a Ranger so the exploding specials haven't been an issue from the start - but just got a wee bit too close to one when killing it without thinking and good night lvl41 char :(

Yea, if you vendor a number of items totalling the quality up to 40% you get an Armourers Scrap if all armour, Blacksmith Whetstone if they're all weapons or a Glassblowers Bauble if they're all flasks.

Also, at high levels when you start grinding maps there is the Chaos Orb recipe which is where hoarding really gets stupid. You can sell a full set of Rare (yellow) gear for 1 Chaos orb. This includes helm, chest, gloves, feet, belt, 2 x rings, necklace, and either 2 x 1-hand weapons/shield or 1 x 2-hand weapon.
All the items also have to be above ilvl 60.
If they're all unidentified still then you get more Chaos Orbs (5 was it, can't remember of the top of my head)

Often you'll have tabs upon tabs of rare ilvl 60 armour and just waiting for that 1 ring or neck drop to get the recipe that seems to take an age to drop!

seems almost impossible to create a char unless i faceplant the keyboard for a name? Names i use in every game that i have never had trouble getting as i either made them up or they are super uncommon are apparently all taken on a game thats been out for a day? Really?

It's been out for well over a year and it's not unusual for a player to have half a dozen characters. Granted, it's been out in beta until a couple of days ago, but there were millions of players for the beta.

Haha I'm typically the person who refuses to destroy anything.

God knows how many legendary items that are useless sat in my inv.

I played a lot for several months before I started selling useless "uniques" to vendors for shards. It just seemed wrong to do it :) I finally started when I realised than I had 3 copies of the same useless "unique" in one of my stash tabs.

I bought extra stash tabs...and then I realised that the vendor recipes and drop rates are so skewed that it's actually faster to vendor everything for shards and grind up the main progression of currency items available from the last merchant than it is to painstakingly piece together the items for vendor recipes. So now at least half of my stash space is empty all the time and much of the rest is full of large quantities of materials for item gambling (which is inaccurately referred to in-game as crafting) because I was somehow dead set on gambling myself a karui maul into a Marohi Erqi. The only things I kept for vendor recipes were gems with quality (very rare) to trade 40% total for a gem cutter's prism (which isn't in the main progression). I did the same for scraps and whetstones, but stopped when I had silly amounts of both, far more than I had any use for.

Tried a new character at the weekend - the Scion.

Basically took my highest level character (end of normal archer ranger), killed Piety, rescued the scion with no issues, went tinto the Scepter and got absolutely mega-ruined by the lightning trap miniboss. Cost me about 15 lives I think. Insane. Fought all the way to the top of the scepter (about 6-7 levels?) without finding a waypoint despite being quite anal about exploring every level and then met Dominus...

Screw that.

New Scion character is using the new skill where you throw a copy of your weapon through the air... It's lovely with a nice big 2-hander. So far have reached the river crossing hub in act 2 in Nemesis (the new hardcore league) and having a blast. Recommend it. The scion start area of the skill map is also insanely good.

It's great to start but I expect it's harder to specialize a little later on.

Love this game, played a bit in beta and really enjoying release so far. Playing in the Nemesis league. Not been following the thread before now, many people from here playing there?

Rolled a new character in Nemesis league yesterday to try it out and really enjoying it so far and currently a level 36 Spectral Throw Ranger, using a 2-hand sword spec, grabbing as many sword nodes as i can to ramp up the dps.

The new mods on the rare mobs make for some interesting fights, nearly been blown up a few times by the Volatile Iceblood/Stormblood mobs....

Be careful when you get to level 45 or so in Nemesis, you get some new mods on rares which you don't see in normal. 2 most deadly ones have been Storm Herald - lightning bolts shoot down from all over map, got me to half health pretty quick with full lightning res and Corrupted Blood - puts a stacking bleed on you every time you hit a mob. Seen lots of people die to this, as you can easily get to 15 stacks before you realise and by that time your HP drops insanely quick.
