Path of Exile(diablo clone)

Yea, I've seen a few RIPs as the difficulty increases so I think I'm just going to make it through normal, then get to ledge in Cruel and farm up till i'm maxed out with resists and a decent HP amount.

Also have the currency drop rates been tweaked at all? I found more currency yesterday than i've ever seen before. Like 4-5 Chaos Orbs, 2 Regals and 1 Divine.
Normally I'd have a dry spell of 4-5 days then get an Alch or 2 if I was lucky!

Doesn't feel like they've been changed much to me, I know that Glassblowers Bauble drop rate has been heavily nerfed.

For anyone unaware, http://poe.xyz.is/ is a great site to find gear to buy. It indexes all of the shops on the official forums making it really easy to find what you're after.

RNG Hax :)

Made it into act3 again this morning - determined not to die this time - If I see that viper strike exile in the temple this time I am just re-rolling it :D

okay need a little help from some fellow OCuKers in the know with this game.

Right now I find parts of this a little overwhelming and somewhat frustrating with the lack of info I can find on it..

So for now I am trying a Ranger build but have some basic questions on the gameplay.

1. What game mode should I run. Right now I have started Domination League. What is the difference between this and standard. Are loot drops improved etc.

2. Is it better solo or party in regards of Exp Gain and or Loot Drop Rates.

3. What exactly is the currency in this game.

4. At what level do you expect to finish Act 3 and after that what happens.

Hopefully someone can shed some light for me.

1. Domination is a good place to start the economy will be a little better as everyone has just started a fresh this week - Also the new shrines are great.

2. Party is the preferred for loot drops and exp - Personally I solo all the time but party is the way to go.

3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx2jT4hdhZk - Watch that to get a feeling about currency all the little items such as scrolls, orbs and alterations are used as currency. http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Currency

4. I think you will be mid 30's to 40 when you finish normal at that point it goes up to cruel difficulty and you start again with all your gear.

Ta for that - Has anyone some advice for a low mainteance class and build guide for a noob

If you have a read on the PoE forums under the class sections there's always some really good detailed guides on there which include specs, gem choices and gearing. a lot of them also include if it's 'noob' friendly (i.e. it doesn't require a lot of high level gear or uniques).

Haven't really played much on a high level witch, think my highest was about 45ish before it got trashed in hardcore :(
As far as I'm aware though the standard spork totem builds are still viable (Spark + Fork + Spell Totem) and don't require too much gear to get going so maybe give that a whirl.

(beginner's witch fireball build)

I also found being a wand-based witch (wands in PoE being a 1h ranged weapon doing physical damage as standard) was quite fun to play and didn't require any gems/gear in the early levels that don't just come with the story quests (e.g. there's a wand-based attack called Soul Syphon I think, and you get that as a witch reasonably early on).

Thanks will check the forums out.

>>>Thanks for that. It seems you need to know your way around a build to progress.

Think of it like this: unless you spend more time researching than playing, the first 3 or 4 characters you make WILL fail at some point, and be more effort to re-spec than just restarting. BUT! By that point you will have randomly found a few uniques that look exciting to build around, or want to try a new style, or want to re-make your current character in a new way, or you might just have randomly found a fun new gem that you think should be the core of a character, and you've been having fun the entire time.

Honestly, any character can complete the game on "normal" - particularly on the non-hardcore leagues. As long as it's fun I wouldn't stress builds too much really.

One further tip - after a short time, taking white (i.e. trash-quality) items is a waste of inventory space, and you really only want blues and up. The exceptions are:

If you're running low on "scrolls of wisdom", do a couple grab-all-the-whites runs to restock.

If a white item has linked sockets that include red, blue, and green then take it (vendors will give you a valauble reward).

If a white item is "superior" (i.e. the properties include "quality 6%" or similar) then take it and stash it until you have a few of them - trading in pieces of armour with a total quality of 40% gives you an item that improves other armour, and the same for weapons.

If an item has 6 sockets (this is sort of level 50+ territory here) vendors will give you special currency for it

If an item has a chain of 5 or 6 linked sockets it is worth something no matter what the base item is.

Personally I also tend to loot white quality jewellery too, just because it doesn't take up much inv. space and keeps my scrolls topped up.

This exactly. I've put a couple of hundred hours into the game in total (mainly in Open Beta) and only now am I creating my own build and not copying someone else.

Very true. One day I had Fire Trap at a high enough level on 1 character that I realised it was actually pretty powerful and I had that epic Fire Staff legendary in my stash.

Roll on a pure Fire/Curse Templar. I utterly devastated everything and completed the 3rd difficulty for the first time with triple fire traps. Unfortunately during my time off it seems Fire Traps are limited to one now :( But it was extremely entertaining while it lasted.

Arf - I actually looted that legendary fire staff too, on hardcore.

Made a templar, gave him fireball, fire trap, went mental all the way through to act 3 where he finally bought it after I assumed "two blue packs and 2 gold mobs is JUST as easy to tank as 1 normal pack..."

Fun times.

You can still make a trap build :)

Also avatar of fire is back in which can be fun ;)

Possibly but I'll have to look into it. Been a massive number of changes to the tree since I last played.

Rolled a new Scion on Domination about an hour ago. Got to town, had absolutely no idea what path to take so figured I'd leave it and carry on. Literally the first thing I looted after leaving town dropped Silverbranch, the unique bow. Epic decision making right there :D

Someone was generous enough to give me a chromatic to hopefully change it to a green but as he opened trade it kicked me back to the login screen (and him too I think) and it never happened :( Anyone on Domination mind giving away a chromatic? It should only take 1.

Made it to Act3 in Cruel and my lack of resistances is really starting to show, nearly RIP'd a few times last night, thank the lord for instant heal pots..
Still enjoying my spectral throw ranger, got around 2.5k HP but my resists are only around the 30% mark so it gets painful at times.
Found a fair few uniques so when this character finally bites the dust I'll have to see what uniques I can make a new build arond, fun times ahead!
