the latest from the patriot forum is it's going to be the 22nd but then who knows it's slipped so much lately and no word from the guys developing the FW, i'vehad one for about 3 months and i'm yet to use it :(

Sent patroit a email as requested from last email from them. Just waiting for a response from them. I'm hoping they can give me the file firmware to test.

I can sort of see why people are interested in the 32gb drive as it is potentially a quick ssd but seriously if it's used as a stand alone boot drive what else can you use it for?

thus if you look at the 64gb you should be able to pop a few important games that you use online which is what I was considering but the fact that 2 raided 32gb drives are cheaper and performance to a point would be terrific but again why aren't people willing to spend another £5 and go for the tried and tested crucial M225 drive?

in comparison it's just as quick once you install the latest firmware as the described speeds are for what's currently installed whereas the speeds on the patriot are far from.

Another silly thing is that the 64gb torqx is £20 more and a little bit quicker apparently on write but slower on read and the only thing there that I can see that you're paying for is the 10 warranty, but even when you do your research patriot themselves say that drive has a data retention of 5 years which doesn't seem that smart

Once you then reassess the prices when you're looking at 64gb you then notice how the read/write varies again and kind of throw you wide open.

I think the 32GB drive is so cheap that people are keen to buy it to test SSD performance. My view is that I will order one if they sort the issues to use as a boot drive from my main PC till a 128GB SATA 6G drive comes out under £100. It can then move to my netbook :)

Problem is that the gaps in price are small enough that you look at it and wonder if you should spend a little more for a 40GB Intel, then a little more again for a 64GB Crucial and then you are over 2/3 of the way to the 80GB Intel that seems to be the current fave. Then you look at the fact that you have reached the best part of £200 and sack the whole idea off :(

Dear James,

We should have it up by tomorrow to download from our website if not
Wednesday.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory.

If it works watch the stock levels of this thing drop like stones.

ahhahahahaaa haha ha hehe urm, i did exactly that except i didnt sack the whole idea, i now have a 93gb vertex LE that cost £309.99
on the plus side though its performing better speeds than advertised, 286 read 272 write :D

I've brought several of these now :D at the price for the 32gig one even with the issues they do great for specific applications such as the OS drive on low power systems (tho I still don't reccomend them as an OS drive for regular desktop) and dedicating a drive to specific applications.

Got my finger on the trigger if these turn out decent, need someone to bench em after the firmware release tho :p

Well this is a fun game!

"Dear Carrot,

The firmware will be releasing soon as it is hard to say as it is in
final burn in test, now if it fails there have to be corrections done
and restart the test. Now I have been checking daily on updates and been
told it should be released by this week.

Please check back with me in couple of days or watch our forums and/or
firmware download page.

That's almost a month they have been stringing out this release for isn't it? Starting to wonder whether they are just hoping to sell enough stock on potential of the product before they admit it is duff and it goes even cheaper. "Takes pessimist hat off"

YYEEESSSS!!! I have more self control than a fellow tech geek :D

That said I am only a decent deal away from any decent 64GB or an 80GB Intel drive and a decent firmware away from one of these bad(literally) boys.

Hm, Starting to lose confidence in Patroit ! Seem if the release date is being pushed further back in a space of few hrs of getting the email from support. Oh well if update not on their site by end of play another email will be in their inbox.

It is a new product from using previously untested components to hit the lowest price around. As such I think they need to be given a little slack, but then I haven't bought one (yet)
