Patriot PS-100

Nah, too late for me, had enough of waiting and they've only responded after so many threads. I asked for a refund via email in middle of march, only to get a reply on 30th saying they can only do replacements. Emailed them back same day and as of now am yet to get a reply (one department said I will get refund, RMA now say I can't) so sent them a reminder today :D

Just totally poor service. Will never buy from them again.

Well got a ps-100 30gb and installed it about 5 days ago on a laptop and have to say very pleased with its performance, yes i know it's early to say but i'm not expecting much for £60 it was worth the risk.

Taking the advice on previous threads i did update the firmware first thing. It's been nice and simple. I can't comment on RAIDing but just for a laptop that for me that's just surfing and missus word documents its a dream :)

Ok i've had a response from Technical support this evening to press for a pre-release beta firmware.

Dear XXXX,

I am sorry for the delay in response, I was trying to see if we can allow that but our engineering dept said no as it might kill your drive.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory.

Best regards,

Valentine Lan

New update.

Hey Guys,

As of now the random writes have dramatically increased, but each firmware must complete a 30 day burn-in test. If the burn-in fails, that sets us back 30 days, but fortunately we do make progress as we incorporate the variations for the next revision. The latest firmware that was scheduled for recent release failed on the week of March 22nd. In that very same week, revisions were made and the current beta has been running successfully now as we speak.

If successful, it should be ready to be released on the week of April 22nd, 2010. We do this to ensure that the firmware will truly be a working solution, instead of releasing a firmware that will enhance performance at the cost of longevity. Ultimately... the agenda is still to get a working firmware to correct these issues. With that being said, we do realize that this is a time-sensitive matter as all of you have been patient enough already.

I'm not allowed to promise anything yet. However, worst case scenario for the short forseeable future, know that we will visit other options as a solution. Furthermore, we have been and will continue to watch the situation closely.

Regards,
Ben

pretty much we seem to have found the problem (kind of) and it seems to be fixed but were testing for one month to make sure!

Sounds good, they can hardly release it untested and risk being responsible for data loss

Im more concerned how much of a dramatic increase it is or not

Firmware 3.000 benchmarks

Just upgraded the firmware and run a couple of benchmarks and here's the results

here's what i got on the old firmware

and the new firmware

as you can see much better :D

Still no NCQ support on these drives. 4k speeds have gone up a little but still not great. When SSD benchmark finishes I Will post the screenshot for you guys / girls to decide.

The rise in sequential & 512k write speed qualifies as dramatic. Does that mean its best to leave a fair whack of space free on these drives so files can be written in one place

Not sure if I should be impressed otherwise with being able to write 2 meg a second

Does it work with trim perchance?

Has anybody else updated there patroit drives to the new firmware apart from myself and Razer ? I do think these speeds are still poor ?

i haven't got round to installing windows on it yet and have only run the above benchmarks so far but yes the scores are better but still not the spec on the box 210 read and 150 write and the 4k scores are still quite low..... i think i might just install it in my laptop and save up for a better branded SSD.... let's just hope they are working on another FW that speeds things up some more........

I get 230/125 sequential read/write on mine (without the new firmware) so its not that far off the rated speeds as such, its just the 4K ones that are really pitiful.

I'm assuming the new FW clears the drive tho so I can't really update without a bit of hassle as I have an OS installed on one of them (low power atom system) and large game installs on the others.

i benched my 2 32gb ps-100 in raid 0.

my results are a better all across the board compared to the old firmware (they were pretty much half of my results here or worse :( ) i am confused about my results at the end thougth.

i think if u want to try out what ssd's are like this is a okay place to start futhermore there cheap and in raid there pretty darn fast (now anyways)
