Patriot PS-100

another day another missed release date another day without word from patriot, good job nobody was holding there breath on this...... self asphyxiation is such a bad idea :)

yep :D well i thought i would lend my voice to the discussion in the hope that they would sort it out, i'm going to e-mail them in a bit but as above i won't be holding my breath lol

I've given up holding my breath. The new 64GB Kingston Value series apparently offers the same sort of performance as the likes of the Crucial m255 for £112 inc VAT delivered. Obviously not as good as the Intel 80GB drives, but a happy medium on price and size.

A similar kind of price to this patriot is a Esata 16gb flash drive. About £2 per gig apparently. 90mb read speed and same low seek times. Not seen a review but could be useful for an os and/or an app and to me this makes more sense then £300 ssd

Just while I typed that sentence I got a bit of a freeze, not sure if this is down to using this ps-100 as the os drive but it is slower then a normal drive for writing which unfortunately is noticeable otherwise it's been good when loading windows and browsing is faster too. Funny but youtube works better too heh
For anyone with a good setup already, theres no wow factor imo. I already had lots of files defragged so Ive not had a big increase from the low seek

I'd say the trim support is vital or this problem having to write 2mb blocks instead of 4k means all those window log files and so on to cause random timeouts it seems

I dont mind delays from patroit so long as its because they want to get it perfect, better then a buggy release. Hopefully its not because they dont know how to fix it

One thing letting the Kingston down is that it looks unlikely to get firmware updates judging by their track record. That said I put windows on it last night and it has definitely given a marked improvement over RAID 0 mechanical drives. Will up the AS SSD scores when I get home :D

Mine has just died!!!

I re-installed windows 7 yesterday, all went fine and then today... Nothing.

Just tried it in an external caddy and the light just flashes, nothing pops up in windows.

well just got my reply from Patriot and here it is

Dear Valued Customer,

Apologies to hear about the reported issue you are currently experiencing. However, the latest firmware for the PS100, 2.008, addresses performance issues.

Please note, read/write speeds vary due to host hardware controller, software, and usage. You may want to see if there are updated drivers for the SATA hardware controller for performance enhancements.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with it. And thank you for choosing Patriot Memory Products!

can't say i'm happy with the response from them from what they are saying it's our motherboards and not there "perfect drive " and saying that the "beta" 2.008 firmware fixes the performance issues where it obviously don't is a joke, yes some have reported slight improvements over the 2.006 (stock FW) but it still don't fix the rubbish 4k scores, correct me if i'm wrong but SSD's are meant to improve system performance not make it worse windows runs great on my Samsung f1 HDD but when i tried it on this drive it was very sluggish and took ages to even install, i think this drive will be my first and last patriot product i will ever buy!

what a bunch of cop outs they really are.. I fired another email off on monday and not even got a bloody reply from them. (checked spam folder nothing in there). I'm furious that they are allowed to get away with it.

How do we stand with these now ?

Where would the drives firmware version be displayed, last release seems to be 1st of march ?

Firmware update #2.008

* Firmware v2.006 doesn't support Active Protection feature in Lenovo laptops. Firmware 2.008 fixed it by enabling Active Protection identify bit.
* Some platforms had issue installing Windows 7 into SSD with firmware v2.006. The root cause is partial command will be NAK in background process and bank (0) is not loaded in PRAM. Firmware v2.008 has fixed this issue.
* Firmware v2.006 has power on and loading Windows XP issue with some NVIDIA chipsets. Firmware v2.008 fixed it by changing default setting to MDMA mode 2.
* In Apple Mac Book and Mac Book Pro, sometimes SSD with Firmware v2.006 will fail in reboot. Firmware v2.008 fixed this issue.

I'm doing the best thing by jumping ship, got this email this evening:
Dear Philip,

Thank you for your reply. I have forwarded this to our RMA dept as they will handle this issue at this point. I am sorry we could not find a solution for your issue.

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory.

OCUK don't stock them, but you can get Kingston V-Series 30gb HDD's around only a tenner more than these. Money well spent it is what I did, it runs like a dream.

Dunno if anyone has been following but still no firmware that was due out 22nd march. No response from Patriot on their forums (all they're doing is going through the main thread and removing any names in quoted emails, not answering the questions) and they won't let me return my SSD (only for a replacement, even though it doesn't run at advertised speeds or infact is 32gb!). I reccomend everyone stays well clear, their support is terrible.

OCUK, I wouldn't tarnish your name stocking these, they really are terrible!!
