Patriot PS-100

For a cheap drive now even cheaper it seems ok to me. Im not sure which is the best speed test but it seems to speed things up a lot.

Im not certain if it uses trim in windows 7, possibly that'd cause it to slow down over time but a format / restore every year or so would do similar ?

From doing a little research about 2 months ago i come to the conclusion this drive does not have TRIM,hence why people arent not buying this model and why its cheap.

KIA

It was stated it did have trim in a recent sale thread.
Anyhow my drive appears to have gone kaput already, only a few months old and with no warning. Anyone using one of these needs to keep a good backup

can't remember who I have and haven't asked before - but did you update yours to latest firmware? handful of people I know have had them die on them but they all updated to latest firmware - those still on the original firmware so far (fingers crossed) haven't had any problems other than the slow 4K write speeds.

Not updating is not really an option, it would freeze for upto a couple of seconds when saving data on version 2

It was version 3 of the firmware, seemed to be a reasonable fix but obviously not if it causes failure for some reason. I have no details as it just went dead, no working parts gives little clue but the bios searches but finds no responding device

doh...

yeah everyone I know thats had one die so far has been using the 3.xx firmware those on the last 2.xx version are still ok.

Well good luck Rroff. If you are using it for read only it might be fine.
I wanted it for windows, ssd really speeds a few fiddly things up like the tiny windows files, directory lists of files and web browsing and since I need to access about 20 different web pages with real time java, etc it was useful till now.

Well after a whole 4 months mine's dead :(

I started using mine about mid to end of march so time of life here was also about 4 months

I've got 2 on the last 2.xx version that are working fine so far fingers crossed... ones got a couple of game installs on it so mostly read and the others the OS drive in a low power (atom) fileserver (files aren't shared off the SSD).

If anyone decided to use the manufacturers RMA service, how much did it cost and how long a time did it take?

Just curious if the saving between this and other brands allows for two manufacturers RMA and still work out cheaper than the competition.

So whats the consensus on this, will it be faster than just a normal modern harddrive?

Whta's it's speed like compare to say a Samsung SpinPoint F1 or Western Digital Caviar Black?

this is a comparison between my Patriot (on the left) and my samsung (on the right). The samsung is my C: with 54gb spare.

Not very good then.

Ah well well, will continue to wait for ssds to fall in price, or try and snap a 2nf hand one up, but they get snapped up.

They are miles quicker for loading games and applications than any mechanical HDD - but not so great compared to most other SSDs - but bare in mind this is an entry level SSD.

I get much better results than those most people post with the 2.xx firmware (haven't updated to 3.xx as so many people have posted about their drives dying after doing so)

I get 230/125 for sequential, 164/64 for 512K which is much better than most peoples 512K write speed and similiar 4K speeds to what others have posted.
