Patriot PS-100

The PS-100 is dead

Well after a whole 4 months mine's dead :( i shut down last night and all was working ok turned on this morning and nothing:mad:

im thinking about buying this drive is it easy to update the firmware ?

will i have to download firmware onto a flash drive then update via DOS or Bios?

I will obvioulsy want the firmware to improve speeds and of course trim.

Do they even support trim?
I wouldn't buy this drive from what I've seen so far.
Save a bit longer and buy a decent "value" drive.

You have backups?
Sounds like good times. Refund!!!

I am looking to get a SSD but am very unsure if it will be worth it. If i understand right there is going to be cheaper, faster drives out at some point but i am really impatient and want one now.

Is this drive any good as some say it is and some say it isn't. Im currently using a Seagate 7200.12 500gb drive with 50gb partioned off for OS and boot time etc does seem pretty quick.

I really do not want to pay £65 for something that will not impress me. Are they as easy to set up as a normal hdd?

Thank you

Don't buy this one, pretty sure mines dead after 3 months aswell! We'll be testing it out to make sure in about 20 mins. Basically started getting a 'side by side inconfiguration issue' which has now got to the point where the bios now can't read the ssd, gives me a sata error, and registers the ssd as having a capacity of 0mb!

So i think i should stay away from this drive? When/if you had it working how much wow factor was there running a ssd?

It ran for 3 months....when it did work it was alright, it wasn't wow amazing because of previous problems with firmware, it was more of a 'werhay they've finally got it to a working state.' That lasted about 3 weeks. I would really steer clear of these, and that goes to OCUK too, they really are bad and they're support is terrible!

i was gonna order this but have opted out, seems to be too many problems and lack of customer support from Patriot for this model drive.

For an extra tenner you can get the Kingston SSDNow V Series 30GB. Delivery inc. They don't sell them here though.

That's what I did and it runs sweet.

I got a refund kindly from OCUK for mine. All I'm going to say is go look at the patriot forums, full of dead ps-100 threads. Can't speak about other models but yeah, doesn't look good.

As Gibbo said these are the value range and you get what ya paid for. In the end I got a Vertex LE 50gb :-P

unless they have improved the firmware over v3.000 i wouldn't bother there are other cheep ssd's that would be better patriot's customer support is rubbish i had to get a refund from the retailer due to mine kicking the bucket not long after updating the firmware after a 6 month wait with it sitting in it's box due to very poor performance, ended up getting a samsung 1.5Tb with the refund and i think it will be a while before i take the SSD leap again with prices still too high for a drive that's usable ie: something you can install an O.S. on and a few games, my Steam folder alone is 133Gb so with my OS drive being around 60Gb with office and the like installed i need at-least 200Gb, unfortunatly unless your mega rich and can afford ~£500 for a descent sized drive, the only use i see for the 30-60Gb SSD's are in netbook/laptop and maybe a boot drive on an HTPC due to less power needed/improved battery life/less heat

Spot on what happened to me. Spent 2 months back and forth in different Patriot support departments trying to get refund because it didn't work at the stated speeds (1 department would finally agree to a refund and past me on only for the next one to say they can only offer a replacement, happened 3 times) and in the end the firmware that was suppose to fix it broke it in a matter of weeks for a lot of people.

Got my refund through retailer aswell. I dunno, maybe for every 1 thread on their forums they've got 1000's of happy customers, but that's a lot of angry ps-100 threads they have on there, and I dunno if anyone here actually has them
