PAYDAY 2

This game sounds very interesting but do you need to play with friends i.e. pub games are problematic?

It's a very heart racing game. I bought the first game (PAYDAY: The Heist) when it was first shown on the Steam Store and after launch, I was hooked! I played the game for weeks on end.

Playing with random people can both have it's advantages and disadvantages. Some can be real "tryhards" whilst others just merely admire the beauty of the gameplay. If you'd rather prefer a chilled out session, I recommend playing with a few friends. That way you can communicate well with your fellow "Heisters" and achieve great success within the game. I also recommend watching a few videos online which feature both the "pro" and "chilled out" type of gameplay to give you an idea of what it might be like with friends.

It's a fantastic game, reaching almost 50,000 people online daily* and I hope this inspires you to purchase the game and join in with the growing community :D

I've not had any look completing any missions on anything greater than hard with randoms, people always get too greedy or storm off like action man. But then again the game is new and so are lots of the players, pub game quality should improve eventually i guess.

Wow, nice! What was the XP like? :D

I can't remember exactly, I just remember levelling up almost twice and I was high 20's early 30's in level.

Have to say though that mission isn't very well designed for four players, we had one guy sat on the cameras 24/7, one disposing of body bags on the roof, one guarding the set of stairs up to the roof just in case a guard caught us off guard, and one sneaking around looking for items. The mission is just too risky to send any more than one person looking for the items.

Sweet! I'm just trying to get most of the achievements now :D

Best bet is to have a mastermind off 4 guards/pagers and force cuff the last then you only have cameras to care about.

On overkill with all paintings, all bags in mission two and all the gold you can net over a million in spendable. Its crazy.

I've been contemplating the purchase but holding off because of the price and the fact that at best i'd be doing it 'coop' rather than 4-man, which makes the heist so much harder because the AI play absolutely zero role in the heist which is pathetic, they're just bodyguards really, they shoot, revive, and get in the way. At which point, theres only really 1 approach to a heist, guns blazing. You've got to do everything, while they stand there watching. I think i'd have no issue paying full RRP if the AI we're an active part of the heist or i had 1 or 2 more mates who'd play it.

I've been eyeing up the 4-pack on the US rainforest site, $90/£60 which at £15ea seems a much more interesting proposal, although £10 was really my 'sweet spot' for it, I enjoyed the first one but it feels like one of those games where you'll get limited success playing with less than 4 people, and theres only 2 of us who'd be playing it really, im not really one for pub'ing it in games.

Maybe when im up to speed with things i'd look at joining others or something, but I tend to be wary of ending up with n00bs, or being the n00b and ruining it for others, at least if im being a n00b with a mate then we're fine we'll just restart and return insults at each other over teamspeak :D

Are there any others on here who play it either solo or with a mate, rather than as a group or joining pub games? Does it feel like its made infinitely harder as a result of the AI, cos i get the feeling some missions just wont be achievable without 4 players. PD1 we never finished the bridge mission on normal difficulty (was no Easy either) we'd always get right near the end and just fall short and it kinda spoiled things, what with the AI and their perfect aim from miles away.
If im basically not going to be able to complete a chunk of missions, then i'd rather wait 6mo and pay half the price knowing i'll only see/complete half the missions.

Cheers, it does sound very intersting but none of my friends play games which is pretty much why I've stopped playing multiplayer. Griefing and constantly being called a cheater takes the fun out of it. Is there a single player mode?

There is an offline mode, meaning you play with the AI, however the AI cannot perform the same actions as you. For example, they don't sneak around and help you out with stealth. The most useful thing the AI can do is probably give you some cover or help you back up when you're downed.

Having said that, some missions can be achieved on your own and the game kinda helps you with that, in a way. For example, the more people you have in the game, the more guards/ cameras you might find (that's just a brief example of how the game changes when there are more people). Having the same amount of guards all the time makes it easy for a group of 4 players to succeed in a heist. The game tries to create a challenging, yet enjoyable experience depending on the players and players actions which I believe is a recipe for a top rated game.

My conclusion would probably be that you aught to play with some random people online just to get the feel for it There are no matchmaking facilities within the "heist browsing menu" (Crime.Net) which is a shame really but I'm pretty certain that once in game, your teammates will definitely help you out if you ask for tips. You'll be able to follow the others and see that the game is really designed for 4 player co-op. Your knowledge will grow as you play with more and more random people seen as some may have several different approaches to a certain heist which can help you choose the method you prefer best. :D

Hope this helps my friend :)

Caved in an bought it late last night (Thurs AM), very happy with it so far. Only played it for a handful of hours and upto rank 15 mainly doing 4 stores because its one thats quite manageable, looking forward to the 3-day missions though.
Im having real difficulty understanding how i can do missions like Jewellery Store, Four Stores or any of the Bank Heists without it being almost entirely guns blazing. Im not sure if its because im lacking a few skills to assist with that, or the AI cant play that way (i think they dont even mask up until needed), im just doing things, or im trying to do it on maps which dont suit it.

As i say, Four Stores is my 'go to' mission, and that seems like theres too many cameras to be able to do anything. Destroying cameras triggers police backup, right?

Omaeka - I was getting CTD also earlier today, #4, and ended up having to get steam to verify the integrity etc and it pulled another 4.3gb, which i suspect was the assets folder because they're like 95% of the files. I'd been seeing some texture issues when i'd tab to desktop and come back in, they'd be weird colours in things, did it again this evening and then every time i tried to load into a map it'd crash midway through, no warning/message.

Thankfully it was only my 2nd CTD since launch, weird about those graphical glitches though. The Diesel engine is obscure as hell so I'd probably bet on it being driver issues more than an in game issue, and now a game on the engine has finally hit the mainstream, new drivers will most likely correct them.

The updates the guys are throwing out are amazing though, loads of subtle changes and layers of polish, I can see this game being one of the best/most polished out there after a few months. Especially when they bring out new heists, especially the 7 day heists, man those are going to be insane!
