PAYDAY 2

I'm techforcer as well dude, you can easily do shadow raid.
I've done it loads of times with Devrij and that's on Deathwish.

Dev you don't get all your money refunded when you respec.

Really? Where did I get that idea from? I could have sworn you do get some of it back at least?

Thanks for that reply on the Hoxhud skill profiler, seems like a decent idea really, certainly when you've got to the point where you've got tons of money and respec'ing isnt an issue.

I've got a long way to go, but hitting Infamy seems like it'll hurt quite a lot, unless you've got people you regularly play with who can help carry you for a while.
Apparently ive spent 202hrs playing (might be a handful of hrs where its been on in the background, or left open overnight) and im only at Lv74 (iirc, whatever i said it was in the last post) and progressing a tier takes forever because the game simply isnt kind to people who arent playing in organised groups, especially when theres the experience reduction for doing the same missions. It was boring enough doing Rats, and Framing Frames solo, but so many missions really feel impossible or require too much luck & knowledge to pull off solo (stealth) and going in loud you dont stand a hope in hell, especially when the AI are useless, dont participate in the mission, and you only get 2 not 3. Its a real kick in the balls.
All the people who i know who've bought it dont play it, kinda sucks really.

Is it just me or does buying the Ace Pilot on Go Bank not guarantee that the cage has to be picked up on the roof? Tried a very hard job and could swear I bought the Ace Pilot but we still had to build the cage in the street and predictably got murdered. I could swear this has happened before too.

What's the decapitations update? As in more than just helmets fly off when you get a headshot?

I only went to the safe house to quickly test it on pedestrians. You see a squirt of blood, but I didnt notice a head flying off so you'll have to check yourself tbh. It was a poor test and I was too tired to start a local game to check.

I went into the .lua code to revert the weapons lasers back to their proper alpha state as for some reason the hoxhud devs have kept removing a specific line since the past two updates.

I picked this up in the steam sale, I've wanted to play it for ages. Having never played Payday... Do I need to play online? Is it worth bothering solo play if not?

I might give it a shot tonight.

It's really at its best playing online with other people... You can play it on your own but it is really designed around there being 4 of you

Certain maps are OK in single player to learn stealth and variations of the map. But if they go loud, because detected, then they become too frustrating in single as the two bots are basically only shooting/meat shield satellites.

Some maps to try include:
Tiara - can ignore civilians in main shop as cracking safes out back.
Bank heists - if vault is in rear area you can ignore front of bank with queues once patrolling guards killed.
Shadow raid - unfortunately you spend more time moving the loot back to van than grabbing from guarded area.
Four stores - easy if cashpoint machine in the one shop and have unlocked ghost tree.

I agree. Must admit, I've not played the game for a year now but I'm certain the bots are still as useless as they used to be.

They're useless at all times... except for when you've just messed up the mission and you want to kill yourself to be able to retry it without buying the contract again... then they suddenly become amazing at getting you up again and again... :p

That's a two-man job: both of you get yourselves downed and then keep calling them over to you. They'll just keep shuttling back and forwards between you. Hoxhud has a restart button but it seems to cause crashes if your buddies don't have it.

A lot of the missions can be done solo if you're willing to take more time over them, but a lot of them become so much easier with a second person with the AI to cover you. Framing Frame day 3 I think is the worst one to do solo, but the rest are manageable except on the higher difficulties.

The game is a hell of a lot more fun with others though.

Dusting this off, love the game but not played in months.
Are any of the mods worth buying?

  • The Courier Pack is a fairly straightforward way of getting some pretty decent mods, I like it.
  • The Armoured Transport pack gives 4 fairly similar missions which are good fun if you want an action packed loud mission with no stealth, and there's a chance to get a bonus train heist mission which is difficult but potentially pays extremely well.
  • The SMG in Weapon Pack #1 is great if low-ammo and the grenades are damn handy at times. The rifle is good but tight on ammo.
  • Personally I'm not fussed on the LMGs in Weapon Pack #2, but that may just be my play style. The knives are good but I wouldn't get the DLC just for them.
  • I really like the Sniper Pack, the Rattlesnake makes a good primary weapon with a fair bit of ammo for taking down the hordes but also punches through shields, which saves so much hassle. The bigger snipers are great for taking out Bulldozers on the higher difficulties but can be really limited by ammo.
  • Haven't had too much time to play with the Shotgun Pack, but I like the Street Sweeper and the extra ammo types can give them a few new tricks.
  • Big Bank is good fun and the Pre-Planning options give a few nice twists on the average bank heists, although some of the escape/drilling options just aren't worth it compared to their alternatives. Thing is, when you've done the job once you've done the entire DLC.

In short, personally I'd say Yes to the Courier pack, Sniper pack and Armoured Transport, Maybe to Big Bank, Weapon Pack #1, and Shotgun pack, and Meh to Weapon Pack #2.

You came back at a bad time though, a day or two ago most stuff was 50% off! :p I'm glad I bought most of the DLCs when they were on sale because it adds up to a fair amount, but I think I'd miss the Courier pack, Sniper Pack and Armoured Transport most if I hadn't bought them. YMMV though.

Some DLC depends on what class you are likely to play. For example ghost wouldn't really use shotguns apart from the one you get in the base game (Locomotive 12G).

I think the Transport DLC is rubbish. Basically FPS with added grief of having to move bags and open locks while under fire.

A nice free mod to use is HoxHud that is downloadable in Steam via HoxHud community page.

I wouldn't bother with Big Bank unless you're of a decent level and have a good crew to play alongside with. The overall payout at the end isn't all that either for some reason given how long it takes to pull the heist off. It was recently 50% off (£2.99) so if it is still at that price then go for it.

As above, Hoxhud, go get it!
