Leaving October 31

The following games will be leaving the library soon. Be sure to jump in and play these games before they go! As always, members can save up to 20% off their purchase to keep these games in their library.

  • Alan Wake: American Nightmare (Console and PC)
  • Backbone (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Bassmaster Fishing 2022 (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Project Wingman (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Second Extinction (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Sniper Elite 4 (Console and Cloud)
  • The Forgotten City (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Is game pass down? I'm trying to sign up on the Microsoft website for the £1 offer but it doesn't let me do anything after I made an account and click "join now for £1" I've tried different browsers to no avail.

Another browser takes me to a page saying:

We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found.

I do wonder why some of these random small titles leave game pass. Does it cost anyone? Who's the loser here by having them still on?
I always assumed the devs/publishers arranged for games to be on game pass for a certain period of time for a one-off up-front payment. So the devs/publishers of The Forgotten City (for example) will have received £xxxxxx from Microsoft up-front to allow the game to be available for xx months.

Really annoyed that Football Manager 2022 is leaving gamepass as soon as FM2023 is released. I have a year old save on FM2022 that I won't be able to continue unless I pay £39.99 for a copy of the now out of date version.

Puts me off wanting to start FM2023 as I know I will lose my save in a year, and it's frustrating thinking that I would have to buy 2023 for £39.99 when it's on gamepass already.

Highlights the crappy nature of the modern streaming \ renting licence business model.

Indeed one of the reasons why I'll never take gamepass seriously. The moment the XBL trick goes away no more gamepass for me.

A quick google shows that you could transfer the save game file for '21 between gamepass and steam versions, so I'd imagine you could for '22, but no guarentee. '22 is ~£20 on cdkeys.

How does this work ? Do they just instantly stop working even if you have it downloaded & installed ? Or is there grace period ?

I think it highlights a legitimate downside/ limitation, but one that has to be weighed against the choice & value you get from the gamepass. I tend to play shorter single-player games that might cost £50 on release & that I might finish in 20 hrs or so. For this type of title, gamepass makes a lot of sense.

I agree, there's been many games (on xbox and pc) that I would have bought, but gamepass means they cost a fraction of that.

Yeah, I think if it's a forever game for you, then it might be better to buy it. Like a Civilisation title, or whatever.
Jim5000's dilemma is a tricky one though - games that you might put 100s of hours into but that have yearly updates. Don't know what the answer is to that situation tbh.

I suppose you could argue that if you buy it after a year it will (hopefully) have dropped in price. Ive no idea if games that are updated yearly drop much, although I'd assume they would. If you've got gamepass, it might even discount that game.

In the end, the drama wasn't too bad. I found out I had a copy of FM2022 that Epic had given away for free several months ago, and I must have claimed it for this exact eventuality! :D

Let your sub expire, load up on cheap xbox gold and then convert 1 for 1 with the £1 offer or a one month sub of games pass. Plenty of threads on hotukdeals, can have 3 years of games pass ultimate for under £60 if you time it right.
