PC V's Consoles

for goodness sake, another one of these threads! how many has that been now, gotta be in triple figures by now! :D

PC = multi-purpose platforms
consoles = gaming platforms

can we just end it at that and just ban anyone who ever makes one of these threads again and flush their heads down toilets, etc? ;)

The main reason i stick to PC gaming for almost every genre of games is that you can modify them, patch them, chop and change them, all in a way you simply cannot do with consoles.

L4D for example, for me that'd have died a death long long ago, but because of modifications and add ons the community make it's given it a whole new lease of life, and the same thing applies to many games i play these days.

Can a PS3 cook food and clean your house?? NO!

actually my PS3 once made me a delicious garlic chicken sandwich, was something special, doesn't do it often to be honest. just sits there doing nothing most of the time, though i often speculate that when im asleep at night it gets up and does weights, etc. also seems to accumulate dust like nothing i have ever seen before, almost as well as those static dusters so i believe something is definately going on! :D

I have 360, PS3 and PC and the PC wins hands down, I've tried my very best to play FPS on a joypad but i'm just not compatible so i'll stick with mouse, keyboard and PC.

I hardly buy any games for console anymore and i'm seriously considering not shelling out for live anymore. I love everything about PC gaming really i.e. the freedom, steam and the cost once you've bought a PC.

I generally find that:

Keyboad+mouse for fps
Gamepad for 3rd person view games.

Other than that I find that PC gives you much more feel of ownership of the games/applications that you are running and that you have more freedom to tweak the settings of the games depending on your hardware.

except consoles can now browse the internet, watch streaming films as well as disks and be used as media players and to record live telly like a digital recorder would (also lets you do the whole pause/rewind/fast forward telly too).

:p

consoles = multi-purpose platforms

pc= multi-purpose platforms

sorry but in my experience with the PS3 and xbox 360 they are very inferior to the PC in that role, especially my PS3, its useless at streaming and the browser is so pointless, feels rather sluggish and clunky to use :)

You still need the PC to stream it and you can record live telly with a PC too.

So

Consoles = multi-purpose platforms with the aid of a PC :p

No, after you go PC you can't go back.

This. 2 years ago when I bought PS3 I played MGS4 and I was amazed at the console capability. To me PS3 felt very futuristic high-tech back then. At that time my PC knowledge was very limited. Now couple of months ago I built my first PC with a second hand [email protected](Overclocked) and 5850. I played Crysis at full HD and I was blown away.

I compared MGS4 and Crysis playing one after the other and Crysis graphics demolish MGS4. Little did I know back then that I was playing MGS4 on 720P resolutions and not 1080P full HD :p.

In the end no matter how powerful console you get; it will always be dwarfed by a high-end gaming PC. So in near future when PS4 releases, majority of the average gamers would be just 'wowed' by it and these are usually the people who aren't in PC gaming. But as we PC enthusiast gamers know that PS4 will still be an inferior console to furture PC tech.

^ If visuals impress you more than gameplay. Crysis didn't impress me at all. Visually pleasing, very average to play. I certainly enjoyed MGS4 more (and I don't rate MGS4 tha highly).

If I could play Uncharted or Demon's Souls, or Mario Galaxy, Bayonetta, Sin and Punishment etc etc on the PC then I wouldn't need consoles. As it stands, if you want to play the best games of any generation you need all formats - especially the consoles, which tend to be home to a wider variety of games.

I always look for both the visuals and the gameplay. I do think that gameplay wise Counter Strike Source beats Crysis even though the latter is visually superior to the former. IMO gameplay is more important than visuals.
I do agree with your 2nd paragraph and I think this is probably the only downside of PC;not having full variety of games to play on it.

It's a shame - especially the lack of pc exclusives. What happened to stuff like X-COM and Baldur's Gate. Deus Ex. Imagine how great a Commandos, Jagged Alliance, Freespace (where are the space sims??!) or Hidden and Dangerous could be today if designed just for the PC. Much of what attracted me to PC gaming initially just isn't there any more, and if it wasn't for online fps I probably wouldn't bother keeping an uptodate gaming rig.

Console is good for driving, fighting and sports games

PC is good for FPS, RTS and sim games. Plus internet, programs (including console/arcade emulation) movies, music...

PC wins

Gaming is all about having fun. I've been a pc gamer for years. I recently bought an xbox and I've been neglecting my pc a bit for a while. Having great fun with my new toy.

Pro's and con's to both pc and consoles. Both are fun, and that's what it's all about.

Now we got the witcher, stalker series, eve online, anno 1404, arma 2, starcraft etc. all great games designed for pc. you like fps more these days like most people and other genres hurt because of that.
