Peaky Blinders -New BBC series, 1919 Brummie Gangsters

just watching this now ... the video quality seems bad quality on HD freeview, black levels not low enough with poor contrast, I guess it was upscaled or something ... anyone else remarked this ?

Great series, cant wait for season 3. Tom Hardy was brilliant in the show.

one of my favourite ever characters. had me howling at some bits.

"I once carried out my own personal form of stigmata on an Italian. I pushed his face up against a trench and shoved a six-inch nail up his ******* nose and I hammered it home with a duckboard. It was ******* biblical, mate."

Oof holy crap, this is already turning out to be a meaty series, thick with intrigue and impact.

From the looks of that gunshot would though it hit her shoulder and missed the heart so it's likely not lethal.

FFS though John Shelby is an absolute moron to slight the Italians like that it shows a complete lack of sense and not a scrap of wisdom, and I'm also annoyed with Thomas not only for backing him, but for belittling Arthur like he does. Arthur may be low on brains but he is loyal and idolises Tommy, and to see him now having layers stripped off him every episode as he tries to do the right thing is quite hard and is certainly going to create a weakness in the family (other than numpty John) that will no doubt be exploited this series.

Also they are doing an excellent job of portraying just how ****ing badass the IRA are and how Tommy is basically a minnow vs their willingness to do anything in order to achieve their goals. They would gladly slaughter anyone he knows and loves without the slightest shred of remorse. The Scotland Yard scene was an excellent touch just to put things into some sense of scale perspective. Tommy has Birmingham, the IRA have the country. Scary stuff.

I'm both looking forward to the next episodes and dreading them at the same time. I love it.

Not sure you're reading it the right way

There's no IRA involvement in this whatsoever; the British government/Economic League (which Father Hughes represents) wish to send tanks to the white rebels in Georgia, but can't do it overtly, hence getting the Shelby's involved in it all. There was very much a reason as to why Churchill spared Tommy at the end of season 2, and here's why

Out of everything in that episode, the most disturbing for me was the openly paedophilic insinuations from Father Hughes about himself and his MP friend.

That closing wide shot was amazing.

Oh, I really just outright presumed it was that and didn't decide do any reading up on it. I very usefully stand corrected and will go and have a read, thanks!
