This has worked out so well in San Francisco that there’s whole sections of Market Street (SF’s Oxford Street) that don’t have a single open store.
It's completely backwards. There's a Tesco Express near here that gets robbed pretty much every day. There's an individual who's very prolific and has even been on one of those police TV shows, banned from the store and so on, but the store has no security and the staff are not allowed to get involved.
They must just factor in the loss from theft now, which is easy to do when you're making the returns that Tesco are making. For these small independent shops, it's no surprise that owners get physical.

Racist ideologies include belief in racial group identity ("they're all the same") and a hierarchy of races. In the currently dominant racist ideology, that hierarchy is black>other>white. So it's not surprising that fashionable racists (who are so extreme that they proudly parade their belief that only the master race matters, that inferior races are so inferior that their lives don't matter at all) are angry at what they consider to be an inferior race using force against what they consider a superior race regardless of the circumstances, even in defence. They'd lynch him in a more literal way if they thought they could get away with it. Maybe in the future they will be able to do so, if they continue to gain power.
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident. As per protocol, no other information has been given. But it's probably the woman in the video.
@Angilion I don't think that's going to happen ^^ but is the ideology used to support the actions and reactions,as I understand it, for the riling up of crowds and mobs.

It's happened before, in various times and places with various group identities. What's stopping it happening again?

I think it will gather pace until evidence no longer matters at all. It's not an evidence-based position to begin with. The whole picture is not what's used for propaganda. Riling up crowds and mobs works as a political tool, which is why it's been used over and over again throughout recorded history (and probably before). It also usually snowballs, often even past what the instigators want. The internally consistent endpoint is genocide. If <insert group identity here> is the root of all evil and its life doesn't matter, killing it is no different to taking a course of antibiotics to kill an infection of harmful bacteria. We're already at the stage where the former is a mainstream belief. The latter is the internally consistent endpoint of the former. It's happened before, multiple times. The Rwandan genocide is probably the most infamous recent example. Maybe we'd like to think it couldn't happen here. But I'm sure some Rwandans thought it couldn't happen there. Until it did.

If the shop keeper was black and actually beat up this girl for stealing, the reaction would likely have been zero from the radicals. A non black getting into the same altercation even showing restraint, not so much.
