Peckham Hair & Cosmetics - protest over an alleged shoplifter???

It's completely backwards. There's a Tesco Express near here that gets robbed pretty much every day. There's an individual who's very prolific and has even been on one of those police TV shows, banned from the store and so on, but the store has no security and the staff are not allowed to get involved.

They must just factor in the loss from theft now, which is easy to do when you're making the returns that Tesco are making. For these small independent shops, it's no surprise that owners get physical.
It’s getting so bad in the USA that even Walmart are shutting stores down due to rampant shoplifting. They shut 4 in Chicago alone and got called racist by the local communities. These being the same communities whose members were robbing the stores blind.

You really couldn’t make this **** up.

I think it will gather pace until evidence no longer matters at all. It's not an evidence-based position to begin with. The whole picture is not what's used for propaganda. Riling up crowds and mobs works as a political tool, which is why it's been used over and over again throughout recorded history (and probably before). It also usually snowballs, often even past what the instigators want. The internally consistent endpoint is genocide. If <insert group identity here> is the root of all evil and its life doesn't matter, killing it is no different to taking a course of antibiotics to kill an infection of harmful bacteria. We're already at the stage where the former is a mainstream belief. The latter is the internally consistent endpoint of the former. It's happened before, multiple times. The Rwandan genocide is probably the most infamous recent example. Maybe we'd like to think it couldn't happen here. But I'm sure some Rwandans thought it couldn't happen there. Until it did.

Numbers wise I don't think it's an issue. Unless you think all those 'taking the knee' blindly* will be useful idiots?

*I say blindly because most don't understand the ideology, or do loosely and have done no critique of it (being critical is against the ideology of course), while shouting incantations and doing actions that harm rather then help.

So really, this is point this nonsense should stop, at least until after the trail.

There almost certainly won't be a trial.

The shopkeeper stood by the doorway to try and stop the woman leaving as she was trying to leave without paying for items (apparently after a dispute over her trying to return some other items) she tries to push past him and he pushes her back, she slaps him in the face and he takes her by the shoulders and walk her away from the door.

She swings a shopping basket she has picked up at him hitting him on the head. In reaction to this he briefly grabs her by the neck and the grabs her by her arms.

Shortly after he releases his grip on her arms and walks away. She follows him repeatedly hitting him with thr handle from the basket which is still in her hand after she used said basket to hit him on the head.

His actions although not 'pretty' are unlikely to be deemed 'unreasonable' given her actions and the police won't charge her (even though they should) because they don't want a riot and because the shopkeeper obviously won't want to pursue when a lot the locals will harass him and threaten him at his place of work even more if he was to go to court.

What do you mean with this snide comment?
That a minor incident between two persons instantly turns into an event where innumerable numbers of random tiktok users or whatever watch a distorted video probably with commentary egging them on to be a righteous little freedom fighters. Enough naturally turn up physically that any notion of a rational conclusion is thrown out of the window.

Considering it was a known grifter that amplified it in the first place I think she knew exactly what she was doing.

I usually avoid these more contentious issues, you know arguing on the internet with strangers...definition of pointless etc. I will say though that this has all come about due to weak leadership and a lack of personal responsibility. Successive people in positions of responsibility have taken the easy option and weakened the ability of the law to deal with those that will take advantage of the rest of society. We then have a leadership, in all walks of life, that don't want to stick their head above the parapet, risk their position, future jobs and fat pensions. So they all fiddle while Rome burns hoping someone else will do something with no risk to themselves.

Until we have leaders who are prepared to take the risk of doing the right thing rather than the popular or perceived virtuous option it will steadily get worse. Once it gets bad enough the populace with demand a "strong" leader who may or may not be an equally bad option. Be wary of anyone who actively seeks power!
