Pentagon releases UFO footage

one question I've had for a long time, how the hell did Einstein predict all this stuff?

"He" didn't predict it like say Mystic Meg predicts stuff or Nostradamus!

The maths formulas he came up with did, and since Maths is the universal language of everything, if the maths checks out, then the practical science part will also check out once we eventually reach that state of technological evolution. Einstein had a brilliant mind to be able to see those things in his head and then translate that into equations that could then be read by the rest of the world to one day verify which are have only recently started to be able to do.

Yeah that's what I meant. I mean there's being a genius, but that's next level.

:D It's ok, "he" lived in more normal times

I think the notion of being visited and studied by intelligent aliens is perfectly plausible, but I haven’t seen enough evidence to suggest that’s what’s happening yet.

accept it's not really when you compare how far out radio signals went out compared to the size of the universe and the vast expanses of nothing that exist.

It's like you trying to find a pink grain of sand on a beach with a blind fold on.

if someone very far away was watching earth for the last million years all they ever saw was the light from our sun and nothing else.

people act like ze germans broadcasted to the entire galaxy

I'll grant you it's unlikely, but they may have been wandering the galaxy at sub-light for millions of years and happen to wander in range. We may have only been emitting EM waves for less than a century, but spectroscopically Earth has been interesting for a couple billion years.

Assuming this is one possibility, then my question/comment in the space thread is all the more entertaining to think about too!

Imagine they've been observing this planet for millions/billions of years, they would no doubt have recorded key events in that history, the multiple extinction events that have happened, the lifecycle of evolution from dinosaurs walking the surface to their natural cull through to the great dying and rejuvenation of surface life. What an amazing thing that would be to see one day (not for us of course but distant future humans...)

There is a damming thing about this possibility though. Assuming they are real and they have recorded data showing our planet's history right from the early days. It would throw a complete spanner into the works as it will almost certainly show that no divine intervention took place, life spawned through natural selection and slow evolution which then his stumbling blocks through cataclysmic events. This thought then goes onto the wider reaching thought among many that they will only make themselves known when humans are truly ready and that time will logically only be when there is zero conflict among us and all nations are working for the same outcome, to expand humanity beyond the solar system so that when the next extinction event happens, at least pockets of our species can continue elsewhere in the galaxy.

I think it's only fundies that would have a problem. The kind of people who deny dinosaurs etc.

The idea of us being studied from afar, or even abducted for a closer look and tagged for tracking strikes me as exactly what humans have done to animals on Earth. It's a logical thing to do if you're curious.

I imagine if we ever become space faring species our first encounter with even the simplest of life will elicit equal amounts amazement, fear, curiosity, and caution.

If we ever reach the 10,000th alien life it'll be at bit meh, land and take their stuff and if they get too close just incinerate a few and the rest will bugger off.

But that's my very point! if you become a space faring species then you already have everything you need. To exit your local system at any reasonable pace requires the ability to be able to generate currently unimaginable amounts of energy or harness dark matter/energy, something that only exists as equations at the moment and observed by means of the affect it has on the universe since most of the empty space in space consists of the stuff.

With that in mind it's safe to say that any species with technology that advanced simply does not ever need to take any resources from anywhere else. They are already at the bare minimum a Type 3 civilisation. All space based travels are for curiosity and scientific exploration, basically and unironically, the motto of Starfleet :D

From the stars, knowledge.

Considering how big the universe is and how much energy and time it would take to travel from any other habitable planet these are just fakes. If there were aliens out there with the technology advanced so much that they could get to planet Earth then they would probably be able to wipe us without much effort anyways.

Why would they wipe us out

By your current understanding. By our current understanding.

Our understanding of science and technology is shifting all the time. Try to explain the concept of the internet to someone 500 years ago. Or smartphones. It would be very tough, they would have to learn and understand so much which would depart from their current ways of thinking that it would blow their minds.

The Fermi paradox can be completely discounted if aliens have sufficient cloaking technology.

And by the looks of things they're not using it anyway.

There is a special on Aussie tv tonight about "The Phenomenon" - which I won't watch, since I was expecting a plural. About 'ufo/uap's'.
