Stable at 5Ghz there or too high volts/temps to try it? :)

still, i'm beating topdog with air cooling and he is using phase cooling so thats not too shoddy :p:cool:

There seems to be something odd with my cpu, the ripjaws ram defaults to 1400Mhz with this cpu and there is no option to increase it. When the XMP profile1 is set it still stays at 1400Mhz?

Just put the i3 4130 back in and the RAM defaults to 1600Mhz and when the XMP profile 1 is set it actually uses it.

Any ideas what is the problem with the cpu?

RAM voltage on the XMP profiles?

No. Bios update required. My H81 board maxes out at 1400mhz for my memory. The same happened with my Z97 board till I updated bios and my XMP works great at 2133mhz.

I have now tried with my GA-B85M-HD3 mobo with latest F9 BIOS, this also refuses to change the multi on the CPU; although it has all the options for upping the multi with a K CPU.
I'm having the same issue with my MSI B85M-G43. The latest BIOS correctly reports the CPU as unlocked, but the option to change the multiplier is disabled.

MSI's Windows overclocking app also refuses to overclock the chip at all.

Just had a look on the MSI forums and despite the reports a couple of months ago that they would be allowing Devils Canyon to be clocked on their non Z series boards, their support staff on there are sticking to Intel not allowing it. I guess MSI boards should be avoided unless they change their minds.

might be buying another one today, but i can't decide. they are only 44 quid this week as well :S. the chances of me getting a better one are slim, but i do like the way they don't produce any heat, even when the voltage is over 1.5v.

i got a second one today just to see the difference.

on this one the voltage scaling is as follows:

stock 1.086v
4.4ghz 1.200v
4.5ghz 1.235v
4.6ghz 1.300v
4.7ghz 1.400v (bench stable only)

didn't bother going any higher as its not as good as my other one.

that is bad :(. my first one does 4.6ghz at 1.2v

I'm hoping it's just the cooler. I tried upping to 1.28v and stuck it at 4.3 but got a BSOD when I got about 5 minutes into BF4.

At 4.2 it can play BF4 @ 2560x1080 but I do get the occasional stutter, particularly on the loading screen. For a budget 1080 build a pentium k and an asus H81 board would seem to do the job though!

@ 4.7 ghz in BF3 it was 100% 24/7 for me with about 70% GPU usage, swapped it to a stock i5 and it was 70% CPU and 100% GPU.

Playable but not great for the PK.
