People who go and sit in their car to eat their luncheon at work

I did this sometimes, working in a busy supermarket all day and then going into a busy noisy canteen, need a break from it sometimes
 
Surely you'll miss all the office goss and not be a part of the alpha peer group if you're sitting in your micra eating sausage rolls ?

Like that episode of Friends when Rachel takes up smoking in order not to be left out and gain entry into the office girls smoking huddle.
 
When I worked in customer service I often did this, it allowed me to decompress and have my own space for half an hour or so. Saves getting burnt out!
 
i do this, it's because i don't like being in a stuffy hot canteen that is loud and stinks of garlic and eggs and i like how quiet it is outside, it's half an hour of "me time" before i have to go and slave away again

I know a lot of people from my old work used to do this every break they could get. (I stayed out of this activity)

i used to go outside and have my breaks a lot due to the fact i worked in a place where it was stuffy, cold and needed fresh air.

What has smoking weed got to do with fresh air and coldness? It doesn't freshen the air or warm it up. It just makes people all silly and stoned.

Same. Nowhere to get away from my desk at my current place, and no-where to escape the noisy work colleagues 2ft away. It's either earphones in to block out the noise, sit in the car when it's not too cold, or sit outside when it's actually warm.
 
I often eat in my vehicle, the Op only mentioned a car so I guess he's on about some nerdy office bods who have canteens and quiet zones you seen to get in that environment so it does sound oddball ish, only real workers eat in their vans :D
 
I’ve done this loads before. Even mid winter, just turn the engine on and warm the car up.

I find people boring and prefer to be in a quiet peaceful place where I can do my own thing.
 
I've done it before, because I like my own space. I also need some downtime from the pressure of constantly being pulled from pillar to post in the office.

As I commute on the train into the office I now take my break away from my desk, headphones in, NHL on the phone and a look of "do not disturb" on my face.
 
Exclusively only women at my workplace do this.

On occasion I have done, during the summer but shortly after I actually started going for a short walk. Usually eat in the kitchen, walk, sit in the car for a brief period - on days where I actually have time to take lunch :o

On the other hand its perceived to be just as (if not more so) anti-social to sit in a communal area with headphones in.

This 100% until I was mid 20's.

Then I got my own mortgage at 30.
Wish I'd done it sooner. Having the time of my life. Without any so-called mates.
Mates are leaches usually financially, and people tend to talk BS about other people in the name of a laugh.
Absolutely nothing wrong with being an introvert, I've never been so happier since I've "come out" to everyone. Hey, if gay lads can talk openly about loving the sausage then so can I about talking how people talk pure utter BS that is called socialising.

lol shrug, just being honest.
 
I always go for a walk at lunch time.

I spend 8 1/2 hours talking to my colleagues and it's nice to have some time to myself.

Plus if I'm in the building somebody will interrupt my lunch break.
 
My work colleagues are not my friends. I already spend more time with the people at work than I do with my friends and family... so why would I add my half hour lunch break to that already unreasonable amount of time spent with people who I don't choose to spend my time with?
Don't get me wrong, I get on with most of the people at work, but that's as far as it goes. Bosses bang on about how work is a family blah blah blah, but only when it suits them to get something done (for the most part).
I also work in an office with no windows or natural light, so time spent in the car park nets me at least a little bit of sunshine. Add to that I'm pretty comfortable with my own company; some of the admin girls say things like 'oh, jumpy always spends his free time alone, I wouldn't like to spend that time on my own all the time'. pfft, go back to watching towie love.
And I get to listen to a radio station that my colleagues won't moan about (R4 if you must know). If there's too much talking they start getting twitchy. We settled on 6music that works fairly well.

I do sometimes have a snooze out there too. Had a complaint before about that: 'not very professional of jumpy sleeping in his car at lunchtime, what if a client were to see?' meh, if you saw the dilapidated state of the car park and the signage you'd be more aware of a lack of professionalism, than seeing me stretched out on the back seat.
