He will never get to within 1% of Bowie's talent and to say he's up there with TMWSTW and Ziggy is absolutely ridiculous.
Personally I don't give a flying fig about Mr Doherty and his drug taking. Its his body and his money so he can do what he likes.
I also feel a bit of sympathy for him because if he wants to slowly kill himself then let him do it without the press all over him.
But ...... to say he is one of the most talented people in this country is pathetic.
I went to see him with Babyshambles and every song was forgettable.
I've also give The Libertines a chance and nothing special there either.
 
It's quite incredible in this day and age that the most advertised male music artist and the most advertised female music artist are so well known now due to their drug abuse rather than their musical abilities.
 
He isnt a millionaire, He probably only has ~250kin the bank at the very most.


His got a problem granted. But he is dealing with it. It's hard to come up with creative inspiring music all the time you know.
 
I don't know why people care so much to be honest, the guy does drugs, so what? It's none of your business to be honest and it shouldn't cloud your views of him as a musician. In the words of Bill Hicks, "If you don't think drugs have done good things for us, take all your albums, tapes, cds and burn them - because you know what? The musicians who made that great music....real ****ing high on drugs...."

It's been going on for centuries, the only reason Doherty gets so much stick is because the press choose to portray him that way.

Oh come on isn't it obvious? The guy is in the press every other week (that's the public eye by the way) for being absolutely ****ed, gettinng arrested every few weeks, and has injected someone with heroin while they were unconscious! If he did these things in the privacy of his own home and no-one knew about it then fine, but the guys antics are seen by millions on a daily basis. He even gets onto stage in an obviously seriously doped up state.

He has a real problem, and whereas a member of joe public would be either in prison or in serious trouble by now, he keeps getting slaps on the wrist only to do the same thing 2 weeks later. In my own personal opinion he's a complete waste of space, hardly a musical genius that is contributing great works of our time, and I really wouldn't shed a tear if he died form an overdose, as harsh as that sounds.

You are pretty naive if you think that a member of the public would be in jail or serious trouble. Prisons would be over run with none violent harmless junkies.

The media control peoples perceptions of celebrities.

In interviews ive seen with him, i can see he is damaged by drugs, and looks a mess. But hes a nice well mannered young man, hes educated. Pretty articulate when he aint mumbling, and more talented than 90% of the people here.

I hate when people **** off people like this because they lead lives that arent as plain as our own

As has been said, Joe Public wouldn't be in either of those situations, that's just what the Daily Mail tells you. Doherty is a great musician and lyricist; Up the Bracket is still one of the best British albums in years, and beyond that I couldn't care less what he does.

You are making out that im wrong. I said his life aint as plain as others, i said hes pretty articulate when he aint mumbling, I said hes intelligent... and more talented than probably even you...

His music isnt a joke at all, im no indie kid or big fan of him, but i like some of his songs.

Hes a mess.. yeah so what. So is amy winehouse but i listened to my gfs amy winehouse album in the car and i thought it was brilliant too.

Regardless of personal tastes, i honestly dont think anyone here slagging him off has any real grounds to do so. None of you even know the bloke. You just make an opinion from the media perception.
