Pete Doherty

You might as well have a go at every other artist who have also been 'junkies' such as Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Beatles, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Eagles, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Bowie, Aerosmith ............. anybody see where this is going?

They can be forgiven as they make/made quality music.

They are remembered for their ART.

Doherty doesn't and is not even in the same league. He will not even be remembered when he shoots up next time with that bit to much smack and kills himself.

Spookily enough, I'm reading this thread whilst listening to Amy Winehouse's album "Back to Black" - and thoroughly enjoying it. Not bad for a waste of space scum junkie.

I've never heard Pete Doherty's music so I won't comment on his musical abilities.
As far as his drug addiction is concerned, his addiction appears worse than others because the press focus on that facet of his celebrity more than any other.

Most of my musical heroes have been "scum junkies".
It's a good job the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Keith Moon, David Bowie, John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne, Marc Bolan, James Brown, Willie Nelson etc etc etc (the list is enormous) didn't get thrown in jail for drug addiction or the music world would be a much poorer place today. Many of these people have inspired other talented musicians to write music and perform for our pleasure. If we lock up Pete Doherty for using drugs, we should also have locked up many of the most talented and influential musicians for the last 50 years.

I'd rather put up with the antics of Doherty and his ilk than live in a world where all music is performed by the likes of Cliff Richard or Daniel O'Donnell.

Edit: You spend ages putting together a post to find out you've spent so long doing it, some old geezer's beaten you to it :p

I don't care that he takes drugs.

But what gets me is that he's famous for taking drugs above all else. Were all the above people you mention are famous for their music not drug taking.

He's a junkie and his music is not even good.

He's a waste of space imo.

LMFAO.

:D :D :D

You know absolutely NOTHING, stop continuing to pretend you do, please, for the love of God!

And talking about For The love Of God he can play that better than Steve Vai as well.

Hang your head in shame! You didn't mention 'The Doors', or at the very least Jim Morisson.

If I'd mentioned every junkie muso I'd be here until I die.

I

They're remembered for the music they make though, and are all much more talented/ground breaking than the likes of Doherty.

Why? Petrucci plays notes really fast with no regards to melody or harmony its like a guitar tug fest.

Doherty plays the guitar like his having a tug but his chords actually sound awesome in the order he plays them.

so talent forgives crime?

Not in all cases, if not Hitler was completley innocent...

I've got nothing against drugs to honest with you. Just when people like Doherty use them for media publicity, while still remaining a completely medicore musician.

I am not disagreeing that Pete Doherty is very well capable of playing his instrument for his style of music.

I have a problem with your consistently obvious ill-informed, uneducated and generally retarded statements about most musicians/bands/any topic possible to discuss.

it's not like he asks the media to follow him round, if the old musicians lived today they would get the same or worse press, Hendrix would be crucified m,y the modern press for his drug use, mainly because he was damn good and soo would provide a massive target and sales opportunity, people would see his name and a scandle and buy the paper just like with doherty.

I don't care that he takes drugs.

Which is why my post wasn't aimed at you.
It was aimed at the blinkered, hypocritical, bandwagon jumpers who insist that Doherty should be jailed or shot or whatever simply for having a drug problem. If every druggie in the world had been jailed or killed simply for having a drug problem, the world would have been deprived of some of the most incredible talents ever to have lived, people who inspired many of todays popular artists.

From my point of view, it is quite obvious that he want's the the media to follow him. It isn't impossibly hard to keep drug use behing closed doors. I'm not entirley sure, but i think the public were pretty passive on drug use back in the 60/70's... He probably would have got slated this day and age, but at least he could perform at his gigs.

OK.

I've managed to locate some Babyshambles (a mate had the album "Down In Albion" on his laptop). I've had a bit of a listen and to be honest, what I've listened to so far has been utterly dire :(

I can't listen to any more so I'm now disinfecting my ears with some Clash.

"This is a public service announcement - WITH GUITARS....." :D

Yep, see! There is absolutely no reason for that talentless junkie to be paraded around the press like he's some sort of musical saviour.

No argument from me on the musical front.

The point I'm trying to make is that those people who seem to think imprisonment or euthanasia is appropriate for all drug users should have a think about what they're suggesting.
