Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

You say that like its a bad thing, if you know that there is going to be a fuel shortage then its actually the smart thing to do :P

There isn't going to be a fuel shortage, if people like your self stopped panic buying. The union haven't even decided that they are striking. Even if they do strike they have to give 7 days notice...

How often do petrol stations get fuel deliveries?

Is it daily?

Depends on the fuel station, some would get 0 to 20 per day I'd imagine. It's the refineries that will be feeling it however, with the bank holidays coming up they'd of ramped up anyway but this is bit early

Well if it gets too bad and people get desperate I'm off skiing for two weeks and my car is filled to the brim, I'll leave you the first four digits of my postcode then you can waste the remainder of your precious fuel trying to find it

GU7 1

:p :D

But there's only a fuel shortage because everyone is doing it.

There isn't going to be a fuel shortage, if people like your self stopped panic buying.

No the would be a fuel shortage when the tanker drivers go on strike, by telling people to stock up in advance the gov have moved the shortage from a time when the drivers are striking to a time when the drivers are delivering fuel, quite smart really.

Do you know something we don't? Are they going on strike? When are they goingon strike?

Can't say I've paid much attention to this, but just heard my local town has no diesel left. Deary me. Morons. At least I don't drive a diesel. Will fill up tomorrow as normal hopefully.

I'm not sure tanker drivers would be able to do much overtime due to the working time directive and tacho laws etc

I would not be so sure of that! - I can rack up 80+ hours in a 6 day week EASILY & that is taking tacho laws & the WTD into account, if you understood how tacho rules & regs worked, you'd soon appreciate this.

Remember, "driving time" & "other work" counts toward your 48hour average working week, "Periods of availability" i.e. waiting around to top/load and breaks is not classed as working time, hence such silly hours being legal.

HGVs crash all the time due to drivers trying to make as much money as they can.

HGV's don't crash anywhere near as much as cars per mile, and HGV drivers are indeed trying to earn as much money as they can, its why they do the job - to be paid.

The absurd drivers hours rules & regs, which (see above) give the impression of a 48hr working week when in fact, its anything but, don't help.

Most people don't work 48hours in any given week, yet I am legally allowed to drive (never mind do anything else) for 90 hours in a 2 week period. Think about that for a moment.....

As you've completely ignored my retort to this point, I shall say it again.

Where is the sense in making us put up with fuel shortages now in the anticipation of a strike that may not happen, and will probably not last as long as the shortages that panic buyers like you are causing now?

You are causing more of a problem by panic buying and keeping supplies strained in the run up to a strike, than by simply dealing with the consequences of a planned strike if it even happens.

It's counter productive.

Really? Try driving slower then. You should be able to get around 450-500 miles on that. I get 55mpg average (70% motorway / 30% town) in my 1.5litre car.

Don't be daft :p Engine efficiency will change depending on the car. I used to own a 1.4 Peugeot 306, I never got any more than 300 miles to the tank regardless of how I drove.

My old 1.4 almera gets near enough the same as the 2.0!

I tend to sit at 60 indicated/2.5k rpm now as it can get 40mpg on a run.

Going up to 70ish makes the revs be up at 3K and the engine wants to rev like mad from 3.5k so it just drinks fuel.

I filled up the tank and two jerry cans last night, £140 quids worth. It was busy but no more than usual. I had two people come up to me and bitch about the jerry cans.

Er, its been common knowledge their going on strike since they voted to go on strike. The when is still unknown but Easter weekend is highly rumoured.

Nope, Stocking up before a strike is much better than waiting until the strike then being unable ot stock up.
