Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

Throw some money out of the sunroof as you approach: Should clear the working class out of the way.

I have visions of an old boy turning up to a fueling station with a flat cap on, hunting jacket and a shotgun throwing money out the sunroof of his 5 series now to clear the working class out the way. :D

I am in the top 1% (I am not in the top 1%)

Looks like no strikes!

It looks like Acas, the conciliation service, has sorted out terms for talks between the Unite trade union and the petrol hauliers. The terms of discussions will be thrashed out by Monday with serious sit-down talks to commence soon after

But Ubersonic said there would be strikes, and he seemed to know something that the rest of us didn't ...

It wasn't really something nobody else knew, more something most people who read the news knew but you seemed deliberately oblivious too. And this hasn't averted the strike yet merely postponed it, the union has voted to strike and if these talks fail then that will still happen unless they are appeased in some other way.

But we DEFINITELY now have a shortage!

True, the talks might fail but since they won't even start until Tuesday at the latest and they have to give 7 days notice of a strike, there won't be a strike this side of Easter and perhaps never.

Yup. Thanks to Ubersonic and all the panic buyers.

Thanks, Ubersonic.

:D

The local BP ran dry on Tuesday, and Wednesday, its already out of unleaded today and it probably have issues tomorrow too. The thing is tho that the are tankers coming to refill it. If instead people had waited until the tanker drivers went on strike then it would have run dry once and only 1/3-1/4 of the people that have got fuel would have.

I stand by my "better to have and not need than need and not have" comment. If nuclear war broke out I would stockpile food, rather than stand around laughing at the panic buyers. Its not like fuel is going to go down in value anyway so even if the is no strike what I have is going to get used.

So you now have more fuel than you need, but others who do actually need it now cant get it? Does that sound selfish at all?

Well, I'm sure this hasn't distracted the populace from any bad news or anything like that.
And at least we've all forgotten that we were cross about the price of fuel, or were we, I can't remember what with being so cross with those nasty tanker drivers...

My local station was close to out of lard and had some petrol left but was running low. I managed to fill my tank to the brim (it was nearly empty) so I am now going to sell in eBay for 35p a litre to try and smash the machine.

Not if he has to fill up due to being low, as I am. Hopefully it's not too stupid back at home, one of the girls at work here said she went to the local Sainsbury's and had to pay £1.50 a litre with £10 limit for normal petrol!

My local shell this morning was £1.40 this morning, hopefully there's only been peasants filling up and they still have V-Power in. My 100 mile round trip over Kielder on Monday night doesn't seem so clever now :p

Until the human race becomes a Borg like collective then panic buying will occur in these types of situation, surely everyone has learnt that by now. The best thing for each individual to do is weigh up the situation and decide what is best for them be that sitting in a queue for 40 minutes or not bothering and not 'being a sheep'. But to say "FFS PANIC BUYERS MEAN I HAVE NO PETROL" tells me that panic buyers weren't necessarily the dumb ones if their wait at the petrol station meant they could get on with their life while those on their high horse are now stuck at home because they didn't realise this ALWAYS happens. Just a thought. ;)

So what you're saying is when this happens, every single car in the UK should immediately go to the nearest petrol station and fill up. That would mean that petrol supplies would last around 6 hours and then there would be none left. Any further deliveries for the next week or so would only feed some of the remaining queue (some of whom would have been queuing all week). Sounds like a great idea to me.

The panic buyers are the ones saying "I must have petrol even if I dont really need it, and I dont care if everyone else has none".
