Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

Texaco in Frimley has just hit £1.44.9, thieving gits.

Didnt see any queues in Woking this morning so hopefully not to bad, got 1/4 of a tank left.

Everybody in town is panic buying (and sitting in queues for 40mins before doing so!!)

Same here. Good luck to them. I'll sit out in the sun today and fill up next week. Some people don't listen at all to the news stories- there MAY be a strike, it MIGHT include SOME of the tanker drivers. IF there is a strike it could might not be for SOME TIME YET and then there will be 7 DAYS NOTICE- so do all your panic buying in those 7 days if you need to.

blatantly the Govt is trying to get spending up before the end of the financial year for some statistical reasons. If it is not this, or the usual anti-union stoking, then they truly have just been useless at communicating about the issue.

One of the benefits of being in the sticks is that the stations here haven't increased prices because they know if they do the post shortage boycotts will put them out of business like it did to the ones that raised prices during the 2000 protest shortages.

Can't say I've noticed any panic buying yet in the 2 local BP stations I drive past daily, and has looked normal for the past week or so.

I don't need to fill up yet, and if it did get that bad around here I'll just catch the train into work and wait for all this to blow over. /winchester.

You forgot to have a cup of tea/pint!

yeahhh boii!

Er, its been common knowledge their going on strike since they voted to go on strike. The when is still unknown but Easter weekend is highly rumoured.

Nope, Stocking up before a strike is much better than waiting until the strike then being unable ot stock up.

So what are you going to do when you've used your little stockpile but the strikes still havent started yet? Just pop to the local petrol sta....oh, wait! There's shortages because everyone has been panic buying!

I don't really plan on doing more than 1000 miles between now and after the strikes.

We had a 1.25l Fiesta Flight and we couldn't get much more than 300 miles out of a tank of fuel.

Likewise. I had an MK6 1.25 Fiesta and 310 miles was the absolute maximum I got out of a full tank. Usually it was between 290 - 300 miles.

Also, 'Fuel Panic: Live Updates': http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2012/mar/29/fuel-panic-live-updates-petrol

I've just spoken - finally - to the understandably busy Dorset police press office. They tell me that the request for some petrol stations to close for a period was taken for traffic reasons – some queues were so long that they had spilled onto roads, holding up other cars. They don't know yet if any garages have agreed to the request, but promise to let me know.

People really are going a bit nuts.

All the petrol stations in Stratford have queues backed up.

There isn't going to be a fuel shortage, if people like your self stopped panic buying. The union haven't even decided that they are striking. Even if they do strike they have to give 7 days notice...

And 7 days notice tomorrow will take us to Good Friday. Very clever if they do that.

Even assuming the car had an 8 gallon tank, that's only 39mpg maximum

That is really crap fuel consumption for a small engine. Of course it also depends what speeds you were going on the motorway.

Edit: I suppose the point I was originally trying to make is a lot of people could get a lot further on the same amount of fuel if they drove a bit more economically

I'll just fill it up with paint thinners if it comes to it. Seems to run fine :D

On a more serious note, not really noticed any different around here. My part of London wasn't really affected last time round. I was working in Bath at the time and it was literally dry down there, apart from my tankful to get me up to London that weekend. Once I got up to London it was like there had been no petrol shortage at all. No queues and all stations seemed to have plenty of pez.

No the would be a fuel shortage when the tanker drivers go on strike, by telling people to stock up in advance the gov have moved the shortage from a time when the drivers are striking to a time when the drivers are delivering fuel, quite smart really.

As it stands there is no strike, that's the thing. If there is a strike ahead (which hasn't been confirmed) you will need to fill up again anyways!! Which is why the whole thing is pointless.

Stop panic buyingg and wait for news. It's likely even if there was a strike that we'd not massively be affected any ways!

The fiesta has a 9.6 gallon tank so even worse and on par with my 2litre fiesta. He's probably cruising at 80mph :)

About to pop out to post some letters, need some juice too so I am going to take my gun (I haven't go a gun but I'm being internet hard) and shoot people out of my way for I am in the top 1% (I am not in the top 1%, I'm just bigging myself up) so need fuel more than poor people.
