Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

I refuse to panic buy. I am sure there will be plenty of places with petrol when I need to fill up on Friday. No idea why people are listening to the government and doing it. A date hasn't even been announced yet!

I bet petrol thefts go up with all these motors sitting about with full tanks. At the price it is now & all these fat tanks laying about there has never been a better time to steal petrol.

A fair point!

Meh, the phone calls have started already. Just had Lincolnshire Council wanting to hire a tanker for diesel storage and Channel 4 have just been on for an interview!

Are you telling me the reason why they are increasing fuel duty is because they didn't notice people were unhappy with the prices?

Of course I'm not.

I'm saying the reason why increases to fuel duty keep on happening, is that we the British Public, don't do anything about it.

Back when the blockages happened and we forced prices down to an 'acceptable' level, was due to concise action by the general public.

Even the French don't stand for this, but yet for some reason, we do?

With 6 miles left in the tank I had no choice but to wait in the 20 minute queue at Sainsburys to fill up. Most people were fiilling 5l cans and some had the big 20l metal ones. Absolute madness.

This is what I was thinking, everyone is going to be brimming whenever they see a fairly quiet petrol station over the next week or so. I did at lunch today, luckily it was quiet and only one car in front but by the time I came to leave about 5 minutes later it was already queing out of the road and blocking it with people beeping.

It's OK for me as I work 2 miles away so can cycle or walk or I can work from home. However we have a 2 year old who attends nursery 3 days a week and my other half who takes him works about 10 miles away so I have no qualms in taking as much petrol as possible in both of our cars while there is a threat of disruption. It might be a self fulfilling prophecy but me taking a stand isn't going to help my son get to nursery is it.

So about 20 miles a day of unavoidable car journeys and you feel the need to make sure that you have two cars filled to the brim?

Peoples reactions are funny but it is human nature at the end of the day.

Only thing that will cheese me off is if I can't go on my holiday that I have booked at easter as I doubt "I couldn't get enough fuel to get me there and back" is a good enough excuse to claim on my travel insurance :p

I had to fill up the Golf today because it was on the red line. One garage was actually sold out and there were massive queues at another. I do need to fill up my 5l Jerry can later as I need petrol for the mower but I'm going to feel embarrassed doing it when everyone will think I'm panic buying :(

I have not tried to fill up for a few weeks now, but I bet many petrol stations are empty because every Arthur & Betty have brimmed their car in case of the strike.
This is the car that they use on Sundays to go to church and back but OMG THE STRIKE I NEED TO FILL UP is just silly.
Or it will be mums in their 4x4s who couldn't possibly cope with the 500m walk to school!

My 'reaction' of filling up from quarter of a tank in a pretty quiet station was only logical. I wouldn't have bothered if it was queueing like it is now - I was passing and thought "Might as well fill up now". Now we are sorted for the next week and we also don't need to worry about making 'avoidable' journeys either.

You make it sound like I've filled up a boot with jerry cans when in fact all I'm interested in doing is filling up when it's quiet. I'm off out tonight in the other car and if I pass a quiet station I'll do the same (it's half full at the moment). I've basically saved myself any bother or waiting whatsoever - if not being arsed to queue and wanting to be able to use my car is human nature then I'm guilty of it. ;) I think you are getting me confused with someone panic buying and queueing for 30 minutes though, this is exactly what I have avoided.

The station I usually fill up at (not a supermarket) only had a couple of cars in there filling up. Diesel price was also lower than Tesco.

I won't be filling up again until Sunday, but that's only because I brim the tank every Sunday regardless of how much fuel is in there. Saying that it's usually 1/4 of a tank left, but I fill it up so I have one less thing to worry/remember about in the week. Maybe it'll be the first time ever this Sunday where I don't get to fill it up. It'll be fun getting to work next week :p

To be fair I think you can see where the confusion came from ;)
