Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

Its a con.

It the oilmen and the unions in bed with each other to jack up ther price of petrol. The oilmen give the unions boss a brown paper bag and possibly a tiny pay rise for the drivers.

Create a panic with a strike. Increase prices massively. End the strike and reduce prices a little.

Nobody then notices the 140.09 going to 150.09 as they have seen it at 250.09 durring the strike.

What really baffles me about it all is this "we are training people to deliver fuel" not a good portion of the population is outraged by the continuous rise in fuel taxes "lets do something about that"..

i just find that a very strange logical conclusion by a supposadly educated bunch of people

I just dont see where this line of thought ends ? let stop this, lets make this illegal, and then.... lets put tax up some more lol,

How much of the decision making process behind these decisions just relys on the joe public been an army of sheep who will put up with anything and continue to pay whilst the country becomes slowly more and more uncompetitive.

Urm, I think you're missing the point of the proposed strike. It isn't any kind of people's protest against high and/or rising fuel prices.

It's by tanker drivers in pursuit of increased wages and/or enhanced employment benefits. If the union is successful in its bid, prices will INCREASE in order to pay the improved wages.

The proposed strike could indeed be called "A strike for HIGHER fuel prices".

I'm wondering how they'll work out the "fuel" tax on electric vehicles.

By the time they are massively main stream, we will probably have v2v communication, so we will be charged per mile. Or maybe more likely, this is why they are looking at setting up monthly direct debit for VED and once it gets popular you'll have a high VED instead of tax on fuel.

Have you got any links explaining this relationship? I doubt ukgov would let it get to that stage but would like to do some reading on it.

Not off the top of my head.

In truth it's unlikely to happen but the potential exists, it looks like (and has for some time) our future nuclear capacity is going to be constructed, sites owned and operated by the French.

It's going to be interesting to know the policy in place to stop the French shutting down the reactors 20 years into the operating life or going on some ridiculous energy price hike.

I've been using my electric bike to commute to work for the last two weeks.

What fuel shortage?

But if we pay them to run the sites that doesn't mean they have any say in what happens with its output. I wonder if it's more like paying a property maintenance company to take care of a block of flats...doesn't mean they can sell the flats without my permission.

Could be, I would have preferred if we used UK reactor designs and constructed them in-house, with the operation and control of the sites falling under company’s within the UK.

However we simply don't have the capability both in terms of facilities and availability of skilled workforce to undertake such projects.

I filled up yesterday as I was about to hit the red and couldn't believe how busy the petrol station was, didn't even think about the strike at the time. People are going nuts.
