Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

I bet petrol thefts go up with all these motors sitting about with full tanks. At the price it is now & all these fat tanks laying about there has never been a better time to steal petrol.

Not off the top of my head.

In truth it's unlikely to happen but the potential exists, it looks like (and has for some time) our future nuclear capacity is going to be constructed, sites owned and operated by the French.

It's going to be interesting to know the policy in place to stop the French shutting down the reactors 20 years into the operating life or going on some ridiculous energy price hike.

Also don't we import a fair bit of electricity from France (at certain times)?

Local garages around here have lengthy queues outside of them already...as pm said, they need to give 7 days notice for a strike to happen and that hasn't happened yet! Glad my tank will last me for a good 2 1/2 to 3 weeks...

The petrol stations I drove by earlier were all rammed, apart from the 'cut price fuel today' jet garage @ 146.9/L. Filled my bowser though 'just in case'....:p

The missus had to fill up her car this afternoon as we're driving to the in-laws tomorrow and lo and behold, there was a queue out the petrol station and 500m down the road. They'd been completely cleaned out of diesel too.

Absolute **** wits.

Maybe the government were right to do this. If everyone fills up before the bank holiday then the union strikes will have no effect and they can stick two fingers up to them. There's still time to re-fill the forecourts with diesel.

This is what I was thinking, everyone is going to be brimming whenever they see a fairly quiet petrol station over the next week or so. I did at lunch today, luckily it was quiet and only one car in front but by the time I came to leave about 5 minutes later it was already queing out of the road and blocking it with people beeping.

It's OK for me as I work 2 miles away so can cycle or walk or I can work from home. However we have a 2 year old who attends nursery 3 days a week and my other half who takes him works about 10 miles away so I have no qualms in taking as much petrol as possible in both of our cars while there is a threat of disruption. It might be a self fulfilling prophecy but me taking a stand isn't going to help my son get to nursery is it.

@hilly.

It won't. Only way is up for prices.

Oh absolutely, but current prices aren't sustainable, energy prices are too high and it's having an impact and have been for years now. This lies on the head mainly of the Government who keep raising taxes.

 this has nothing to do with fuel prices.

I know it's not, but theirs talks of refinery blocking, picketing which might make the Government at least take notice (though I doubt it).

I understand that drivers are striking due to their perceived issues within their jobs. But if a strike happens for weeks prices will go up. You can also bet that prices won't go down to the same levels as they were pre-strike.

Refinirery blocking won't happen, that's covered by terrorist laws. Nothings going to happen to price except rise.

Blocking won't no, but picketing will. You can picket and try to persuade the lorry drivers to not deliver goods, that in it's self would be unlawful normally, but because it's during a staged picketing protest it's entirely lawful.

You then have mass picketing but that's likely to fail as police then have special powers to disperse mass picketers if they believe that this could lead to "serious" public disorder or damage.

Are you telling me the reason why they are increasing fuel duty is because they didn't notice people were unhappy with the prices?

Panic buying in full swing at Sainsbury's Watford earlier. This was after I'd queued for about 5 mins.

Both stations on my way home from work had a few more cars there, but nothing out of the ordinary....the prices however have gone up 3p/litre since Monday......
