Players are dumb, they always have been.

Completely undeserved well done Giggsy! Will go nice with an 11th Premier League :)

I don't think Giggs has been close to being the best player in that list, but in terms of what he has achieved and never won it, it's quite fitting.

Makes a bit of a mockery of the actual award though. There should be a special award for "outstanding lifetime achievements" or similar for players like Giggs.

It will be interesting to see will he win the writers award given that the media pretty much gave giggs this award by drumming up support during the voting.

Why shouldnt it have been Gerrard? He's been amazing and unlike others, he's not ended up looking like a sunday league player for spells during the year/season.

Even Chelsea fans were saying Gerrard deserved it.

Should have been off that list, Ronaldo and Ireland, off a fair list it should have been between Rooney, Ronaldo, Lampard and Ireland to win the awards and frankly I'm not sure who i'd pick out of those 3 in all honesty.

I can't believe a player thats been so uninvolved, been really quite terrible in multiple games and simply hasn't scored/assisted very much at all wins the award. Create a new lifetime award if you must for him but giving him that award simply devalues the award.

AS for Gerrard, not in your life. Frankly Ronaldo dives, but he gets hacked down a hell of a lot, out scored Gerrard by a way(especially if its really the calendar year), he's been injured yet still arguably Man U's best player, in a calender year that might have what, 6-7 titles thats largely down to him. Firstly Gerrard can't come close to that, secondly, no matter what Liverpool fans want to believe there have been completely annonymous games by Gerrard this year, yes he has had bad games even when the team has won aswell as bad games where the team hasn't.

Ronaldo, even in a poor game will pop up with a brace, when the team is brilliant he'll score two and set up 2, again something Gerrard won't normally do. For me, Gerrards the biggest cheat in the league also, he dives in a ridiculous manner, he fouls other people and pretends to be fouled and gets penaltys, sorry player of the year shouldn't be doing that at all, let alone almost every game.

Lampard maybe bests them all, he's simply not a cheat in any way or form, a thoroughly nice guy player, whose barely had a bad game all year. He's played probably more games than any of the others(iirc they said he started his 50th game last time out) in a year where they are still on for a treble in a year he's been superb.

I think the fact that Rooney and Lampard weren't picked makes a mockery of the entire thing, the fact that Giggs won makes it the "who do you hate the least off the list" award. Ronaldo, Vidic, Rio and Gerrard will all tend to foul people, get away with penalties, dives, hacks, pull shirts, etc, etc, etc. Giggs isn't really a tackler, no one gets mad at him, no one begrudges him the award so he wins it, utter joke.

should have never been Giggs, nothing more than a sympathy vote. He has only started 12 PL games for crying out loud.

Never understood why these awards are selected in Feb, it should be at the end of the season. Awards for the calender year are stupid, if that was the case then Ronaldo should be winning as he had storming finish to last season.

Why shouldnt it have been Gerrard? He's been amazing and unlike others, he's not ended up looking like a sunday league player for spells during the year/season.

Even though stats probably don't show it I'd say Alonso has been Liverpool's best player this season and shocked he wasn't even up for the award.

Not easy to pick out a winner though, don't think there has been a stand out player in the league this season.

Alonso's been excellent and arguably more consistent than Gerrard however there's been spells during the season/year where Gerrard has been on another planet.

Erm, all respect to Ryan Giggs, but I for one don't give a **** about individual awards. All that matters in football is what the team does.

Absolute disgrace.

Agreed, I can't think of a time in all my years watching football when a less deserving player has won it. Is this his first time winning it?

At times in his career he's been simply sublime, now he's a bit part player. They might as have well given it to Solskjaer.

In my opinion, and I stress opinion before you all go crazy, it would have been just as much a disgrace if Gerrard won it

Footballers are stupid and this award just confirms it.

The fact Ashley young beat out Stephen Ireland is pretty much just as baffling

I would have liked to have seen Vid win it because I don't think there was a better player, position for position this season. But hey, it's the pro's who vote, they play against him week in week out not us arm chair johnnys who think we know more than them. Lets also remember there was more than just Giggs nominated and they didn't have to vote for him
