I have learned the hard way not to believe what the manuals say. They are often wrong.

@Type R,
Have you tested to see how a PWM fan performs wiith an external power source to it? Because if you have not verified that you have a PWM signal on pin-4 and 12v constant power on pin-2 all bets are off. In other words we do not know how motherboard is controlling PWM fan and therefore cannot know if it's motherboard or Phanteks hub that is the problem. I have not yet seen a Phanteks PWM hub that was defective. Not saying that there may not be some, Just saying every problem I've seen so far was not caused by the PWM fan hub. ;)

All I can say is test the header to be sure how it is working. My Gigabyte works fine.

Delpy8,
Have you verified your motherboard is sending a PWM control signal on pin-4 and constant 12volt on pin-2? I'll take a look at your manual and see if I can find anything.

Good point.

So I have a Corsair H75 which has two Corsair PWM fans powering them and a Phanteks PH-F140XP PWM fan to hand.

What do I need to do to test either of these to get conclusive evidence that in fact MSI is lying and not sending out a PWM signal?

EDIT - Just been reading around the subject, and short of getting an oscilloscope there isn't any real way of determining the signal coming out of the header.

I must say I am more inclined to believe the MSI motherboard outputting a true signal (as documented by the manual and usable by the Phanteks PWM fan/Corsair PWM fans) over the Phanteks fan hub working correctly.

I did adjust my bios to silent and even tried this in manual settings and still had 100% NOT SURE what to do then
Checked out your manual and did a little drawing of fan header pin-out

Hey all, I currently have i7-4790k, MSi Z97 Gaming 9 AC, MSi R9 290x, Kingston HyperX 16GB (2x8GB) 2400MHz, SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W 80+ for my new build and I absolutely love the look of the Primo. All the reviews are impeccable and the only thing preventing me buying it is the Luxe is due out shortly and I don't know which I like more.

I want to put in a custom loop though I haven't touched open loops before, is the pre-watercooled primo a good idea from the store or would it be better to buy the parts and build the loop?

I think it's better to do a bit of research and learn how to do it yourself. It really isn't that difficult and it's cheaper.
If you buy a prebuilt loop, what do you do if/when you run into problems or you want to change something and you have no idea of what's what??

Yeah I've been doing that, really want to attempt to do it solo but obviously as I've not touched it before I'm worried I'll damage my parts above. Once I get started though I reckon I'll be ok, it's just knowing where to start and which brand to use, which kit to buy etc

There are lots of people here who have done it and are always ready to lend a helping hand to those who need help. It's what we do here. :D

So my Akasa PWM splitter cable arrived today and the results were....as expected.

For the benefit of Doyll:

Connected the MOLEX from the cable into the PSU.
Tested first with the Phanteks PWM fan connected to the CPU cable input and the cable connected to CPU2 header. The fan spun as expected, it was controlled correctly by BIOS and software from 25-100% RPM range.

Then tested with CPU1 header with CPU cable connection to my 2xCorsair PWM fans. Again both fans spun between 25-100% as demanded via BIOS and MSI Command centre.

Finally tested with Phanteks fan hub connected to CPU cable connection and CPU1 then CPU2 header. All fans connected to the fan hub spun at 100% with no change in RPM when 25-50-75-100% requested.

I think this proves two things:

1. The MSI motherboard is putting out a true PWM signal on CPU 1 & 2 headers.

2. The phanteks fan hub for whatever reason is not working. It is faulty. I am going to request a new one from Phanteks.

Oh and for Doyll, there is always a first time for everything...never seen a Phanteks fan hub fail ;)

For Type R
Thanks for the update.
So we now know your motherboard is PWM.
Yes, contact Phanteks for a replacement. Please keep us informed of the progress.

So could it be possible that I can have a faulty fan hub also as I get the same results as above with my swiftech hub
Thanks! :D

Yes, it is possible. That or hub is not compatible with the PWM signal for some reason we don't know.

Definitely contact Phanteks and get their help in sorting it out.

I have seen several peeps just give up on using the Phanteks hubs when they didn't work for them, but none ever verified with a separate 12v source that they did have motherboards with PWM control .. so do not know if they are/were in fact faulty or not. Should have said that before.

How are people finding this case?

I have a Corsair 750D, which, while easy to work in, certainly does feel a bit cheap and flimsy. It's not awful, but it's not really solid.

This case seems like the exact opposite. Is it a bit cramped?
