[PIC_THREAD] Landscapes, Architecture, Seascapes

Something more abstract.

Probably the most spectacular sunset I have ever seen, taken outside my apartment in Lausanne, Switzerland. The entire sky just went on fire and the streets glowed red-orange. The streets quickly filled with people who emptied form shops and cafes.

This photo needs more work. The lens flare needs to go and would like more details in the rock on the left. Despite that I really like this photo in print, has a certain ethereal quality to it.

^^^ thanks. I like to travel, part of what I want to get out of photography is memories and feelings for places I travel to.

Mount Robson, Canadian Rockies. Tis mountain is shrouded in clouds for over 300 days a year so this was a lucky opportunity. This is a sunrise photo but this face is better at sunset, however I wasn't that lucky for clouds to stay clear until the evening.

Mesa Arch, canyon lands Utah. This is a side view of the classic arch at sunrise. Twice I was thwarted by clouds on the horizon that blocked the sun hitting the arch underside they way it should until the sun reached to high in the sky. 2 days running I had got up at 4:30am to get on site on time and on the second day I wanted to capture something, 8-10 minutes after first light the entire cliff side glows a radiant orange glow. This photo is a reminder to go back again.

For some reason I only have an incorrect crop of this photo with the clouds cut off.

The photo shows fossilized trees in Yellowstone dating back 50million years. The Lamar valley below is known as the American Serengeti, with large herds of bison, pronghorn the largest wolve packs in the contiguous US as well as black and grizzly bears. The hike is a semi-secret and the tree's location not published by the NPS to try to protect the trees but the hike is described on the Internet and in publication. There is no mared trailhead and only a faint path through dense gorse and sage bushes. We got off trail a little way and after some bushhwacking to get back on trail we came across a recent bear or wolf kill so backed out carefully with our tail between our legs.

The fossil trees are near the top of a steep hillside 2500ft above the valley, loose gravel and Petrified wood make for tough conditions to play with different compositions. Next time I will bring a rope and harness and get belayed into position.
