The view from Greenwich park a few weeks ago.

Managed to get away from the raging hell of central London for a week, to the isle of skye, where just as usual - it rained... and rained... and rained... and rained... and rained, hardly any opportunities, but tried to capitalise on whatever conditions came up.

All shot on 5x4 72mm/90mm and the last one with a 400mm

Trying to make the most out of mega-gloom :(

Can I trouble the forum for some advice here. I am a complete novice at photography and still very much in the process of learning. I have been trying a few landscape shots recently but seen to be struggling with sharpness. I took this shot of the Humber Bridge this morning on a D5100 and Nikon 35mm F1.8 and it just doesnt seen that sharp to me...this is an unedited JPG converted from Raw. I have tried from F8 all the way upto F16 but regarding landscapes I just can't seem to get sharpness on any lens I use. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

And edited with some sharpness/clarity etc

Settings seem OK to me, I agree on the full sized flickr image it doesn't look great, more like a good phone photo rather than SLR. Are you talking specifically about the RAW or the exported JPEG that is the issue, if the JPEG it could be the settings that you are exporting with that is causing the issue.

If you think it's the RAW could you upload the RAW file somewhere people can make a better judgement.

I used to have the 35mm f/1.8 and thought it was a great sharp lens.

Looked through some of your stream, the other photos look fine to me, perhaps some are a bit oversharpened or you've pushed the clarity slider a bit too far but otherwise good.

Thanks guys, Raw file looks the same... cant work out where to upload it though. Bruce thanks for the comments on my other pics, Admittedly my processing has some way to go yet.

It's only been me that's replied so far :p

If you have dropbox or similar you can just put it there and share the link.

You're processing for the most part is fine, just something I noticed at times :)

Hi guys,

Kinda new to photography, so some critique would be nice :)

1st & 2nd are let down by needing better thought on composition, 1st there is a fence with posts in the way that don't add to the shot, as well as the tree branch top right. Same with the building, did you want it in the photo or not, hard to say with it half cut off :)

2nd again the tree branch and middle ground tree(s) obscuring the nice snowy mountain.

3 much better, I would have gotten closer to the water as a nice lead in to the image of the mountains, again the left foreground doesn't add to the shot so isn't really needed.

4 is the best of the set, you have a nice foreground with the canoes and jetty, then the lake then the mountains for the background. It looks a little blue to me, white balance needs adjusting a bit.

I think the problem you had was that it's all a bit too brown, needed a bit more snow or nicer light, shooting in the midday doesn't usually give you the best atmosphere.

Anyway, it's (quick) advice if you want it, feel free to disregard it, just my opinion :)

Where is it by the way, suspecting Scotland?
