[PIC_THREAD] People, Portraits, Street

How much PS was done on the last one?

Looks like you missed a spot, literally, by his feet.

Lol, Not much tbh, it's just a quick Lightroom edit as I haven't been back long from the shoot in London.

HERE is a link to the Raw, didn't notice the bin, so it had a bit of a crop.

So I ran one of the images I posted above through LR5's 'upright' feature, it's pretty impressive. I also notice that it demosaics Fuji XP1 files faster too, and I seem to be able to pull the highlights back a bit better.

Help with brightness

Would it be possible for someone with a decent monitor to tell me if this is too dark or light,

and whether this is too dark or light.

I can't seem to get my monitor calibration right, it might be too bright or dark I just can't work it out at the moment and I may as yet need a new monitor as this one is getting past it now and I need to get these printed.

Also any criticism on any aspect of my first attempt at photography will always be welcome :)

Brightness wise they both look quite flat here, the grey tone used is one factor as to why as well, needs a bit more contrast or "black" if that makes sense.

Look at Jonney's last photo and Rav's BW conversion, they both have strong blacks going by my screen and that adds some depth and mood to the photos. Your first one appears to have quite a bit of noise as well, it was shot at ISO3200 so has had some noise reduction applied to it by the looks of it (the blotchy remnants are the tell tale in most cases).

At 1/160s at that ISO means you could have dropped the ISO quite a bit and used a slower shutter and still gotten a sharp result without the added noise :)

The first shot was taken later in the evening, and as a novice forgot that the ISO was on auto and forgot to change any settings so it has been messed with a fair chunk :)

Thanks for the input it helps and after reading a lot about exposure I'm happy to say I actually understand what you have said, so I'll get back to practicing and messing with different settings to see the results.
