Sometimes I do use the 17-40 for portraits, not out of choice but because I was using it and a portrait presented itself.This was one of them and even wide open it's very sharp at the long end. Shame that at the wide end the edge to edge sharpness isn't as good but still, usable I suppose.

100% crop, no sharpening applied.

Other times I like to filter around to find different ways to frame:

Only if shooting with the D800 but when canon it's the 85mm 1.4 which is the longest

It's a school playground wound, the amusement it has caused during the last week or so means it has to stay for the memories

I should have got her to fold her arms as well, but just getting her to stand still for a photo is a challenge!
