[PIC_THREAD] Wildlife, Animals, Birds, Zoo

A recent visit to the local wetlands reserve in Newport. I definitely need to get a TC-14 for my old 300 f2.8 AI-s as some of the crops ended up around 3-4mpx. I can also see why people rely so heavily on autofocus and continuous AF as trying to manually focus on these things with a modern fresnel screen is remarkably difficult.

I've not been at this photography thing for long compared to some people but I've only used manual focus a handful of times for wildlife! Definitely not something I want to have to do often with the way the manual focusing works.

I don't have a lot of choice as my 300 f2.8 is from 1986 and pre dates autofocus. (as does 90% of my kit) It would cost over £2k to replace it, which is a bit prohibitive considering, optically it is not far off the current version. It's not so bad when using my F5 with film as I have a split image screen which makes it significantly easier.

Yeah the split image focusing isn't too bad :) If only stuff was cheaper!

Not had my camera long so still learning everything, was quite happy with these shots from Saturday though, my main struggle I am having shooting local bird life is sharpness its almost like most birds have a fuzz as if I have two slightly over lapped images.
