Kestrel, Richmond Park this afternoon. She approached us carrying a newly killed shrew which she then cached under a thick fallen branch, I didn't know they did that.

I wasn't in the right position to get a shot of that but she then perched herslf on various logs and posed for us, she came very close at one point, almost to my mfd!

Lovely shots. What did you use to capture those?

Thanks.
I used an Olympus E-M1 with the 300mm F4 Pro lens and a 1.4x TC.
ISO640 1/1000 sec @f5.6.
I don't intend to strip out the exif but the way I post shots that's what happens!

I'm not utterly convinced in that combo for wildlife, birds in particular. The lens is brilliant but the body is useless for tracking. I have problems with single AF when contrast is even slightly less than optimal due to sunlight for instance.

^ good bright shots bonzo, what gear/settings?

Female mallard by mack100, on Flickr

Male mallard by mack100, on Flickr

Gull by mack100, on Flickr

First outing with 1DX and Sigma 150-600C.
The duck shots were at 4000 ISO, as far as I'm concerned that's insanely high!
What amazes me with the female mallard shot I didn't have to apply any NR in pp, must be the sensor, certainly not me!

As far as the gull shot goes, I was amazed to actually see a bird in the viewfinder.

Nice shots yourself, footman !

Ok.. the above Whitethroat male i shot was taken with Nikon D610 FF, and Tamron 150-600mm, a lens more or less on par with your Contempary Sigma

1/1250th / F8 / Ap Priority / 550mm FL / ISO 800 / No flash / Hand held

I'd imagine you can go much higher too, it's amazing what new gear is capable of!
I was with a Nikon trainer the other day and told him that I didn't risk going above 2000 on my D500 and he said I can easily go up to 51200 in certain circumstances.
I thought I'd have a play and these are 7200 & 9000 respectively, they are noisy of course but I'd imagine it's not something that couldn't be corrected -
