Would you believe i snapped the horse on an old Pentax DSLR and cheap Pentax zoom ?

I since moved to Canon some years later and then Nikon after that

The European Mantis was on a Nikon using the Nikon 60mm macro

Still eyeing up those fabulous kestrel close ups, footy

Female kestrel by mack100, on Flickr

I think this bird is stalking me! She landed on a branch next to my shoulder and jumped down next to my shoe to catch a beetle.
I'm not completely happy with the way Flickr has handled this, probably my eyes!

Footy - great shot

What is it about the the bird that you think Flickr has messed up ?

All i can see is perhaps some mild lens flare on the birds head - or maybe its something else.

The head looks like it has some mist hovering over it, though very mild. I'm not sure thats Flickr

Hope you dont mind, but i ran your original size photo through CS6 to see if i could PP out the odd looking misty head ...see what you think.

I will remove the photo if you think this is too cheeky

Footy

I did a few things, cant quite remember the sequence, but i used the burn shadow tool around the head only, using the soft edge option at about 7 or 8% till i thought it lessened the misty look. also added a touch of contrast - but only mildly

Then, and this wasnt necessary to be honest because you had already done a fine job, but increase the view to 400% and denoise the background only using the blur tool, not the denoise tool, at 100% ( its quickest at 100% but depends on whats being done )

This gives an ultra smooth background - i did no denoise on the bird at all. Then selective smart sharpen

This took 10 x longer to type than it did to do but it looks ok, IMO

PS dont know how i managed to post 2 photos so i've just removed one
