[PIC_THREAD] Wildlife, Animals, Birds, Zoo

I've been running a lot recently and keep seeing red-tailed hawks and even a bald eagles (im in the USA). Not had too many opportunities to get out with my camera but ever time I do there is nothing to be seen. Spring is here so the smaller birds are all coming out.

Let the wildlife come to you, time and patience is the key and eventually you'll be rewarded. I'd stick with Otmoor as well, looks like you get Hobby there soon and they're great birds to watch and photograph. Also turtle doves there which are a real treat, providing the Maltese don't shoot them all on migration.

The Marsh Harrier was from here - www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/find-a-reserve/reserves-a-z/reserves-by-name/o/otmoor/index.aspx - where I've been going a lot recently.
It is full of stuff but as usual with RSPB places you can't always get close enough to the subjects for great shots.
That Elmley looks pretty good, it might be a bit far away for me for a daytrip but if I do go to the area I'll definitely pester you for advice :)

Looking forward to cuckoo on my patch too. I see hobby as well but generally when I'm out on the moor doing fieldwork and don't have a camera with me, though I know a reserve I can visit that has them in the autumn.

That's a great shot Andy.
Where did you take that?

Went to rspb Frampton marsh last weekend.

This one just needs a letterbox adding to make an ocuk meme.

Skylark in flight was nice, can probably do better next time, they are pretty hard to find in the sky as they are small.

There are a few more on Flickr.

I liked this redshank as well, doing better with birds in flight at the moment. Stopping down a bit seems to get more in focus and with good light iso and shutter speed are ok.

Thanks Matt, Linnet are local to me all year round. Probably nicer late summer/autumn when the males are in breeding plumage, the pink is more pronounced on the chest/crown.

I'm sure we did, I was the old bloke with the Olympus gear. I think you pointed out where the dartfords were nesting! Could be my imagination though!

Yes! Small world. Recognised you on your Flickr account. I recall you were telling me about your birding trips abroad so it's fun to go through your feed.

Small world indeed!
I'm also keen to see the Hobby's, we get them on the heathland north of Camberley so I'll let you know if and when they appear. I'm enjoying your Flickr stuff too, see you around.
