Pick Your Team

Valencia had one bad season, if he comes to form, brilliant.

What makes you think he didn't just have one good season which was a fluke?

If you look at his goal to games he has 11/100.

Kanchelskis scored 36 goals. Just so you know. In no way is Valencia good enough nor will he be remembered in ten years time in any other way than Jasper blomqvist or jordi Cruyff. Or more likely someone who also got shunted into a defensive position, Quinton fortune.

What is your obsession with comparing players that really shouldn't be compared?

Valencia has also had more than one good season.

Something like that though 4-4-2 with hernadez for some games. Ronnie is a bit of a stretch but I live in hope. All I want really is that we sell Rooney abroad and find someone to take Wellbeck off us.

That would do me. Keeping Baines and Fellaini, signing McManaman from Wigan, and pushing Mirallas up front. If we sold Baines and Fellaini it could be a completely different team as we'd have a lot of money to spend.

I could go for that. Fellaini is the more likely of the two, for Arsenal, I believe.

Would prefer not to lose either but it's going to happen.

Because he's had two good seasons.

He's a supplier, not a scorer, so it's an unfair comparison. He's a traditional out and out wide supply man. 1:10 is a higher goals to game ratio than many of our players who play through the middle too.
Welbeck managed 2 in 34, which works out as less than 6/100 and that's after a season where we won the title and scored lots of goals!

Whether that's the case or not, who cares. He's a much more consistent, selfless and supportive supply player than any of those you mentioned.

That would be a good line up. I still think you need a better CB than Distin though. That said, with Martinez in charge you'll probably play some bizarre 2-1-3-1-2-1 formation with only one of your defenders being an actual defender if he sticks with the tactical masterclass he put in at Wigan last year :P.
That's what worries me with Martinez tbh. I think he might be able to improve us going forward, but defensively he doesn't seem that strong. It's why I'd rather lose Fellaini than Baines, as that way we can keep the same back 5 we had last year, who all know how to defend, and he can just pick them and be done with it. They can defend without interference from Martinez, who can concentrate on making us more effective up front. That could serve us well. Time will tell I suppose.

Difficult decision for the CB's as I'd take any combination of Kaboul / Daws / Vertonghen.

New LB as BAE too error prone.

New ST as per usual

Assuming Paulinho signs

Bale & Lennon switching wings, moving into centre etc.

Based on singings & 'strong rumors' of comings & goings (would prefer a stronger back line, but its gone quiet on Papadopolous/Alderwilde).

That's a hell of a cram packed midfield. I quite like that team on paper. Toure being a bit of a risk. But as long as your wingers track back, under Rodger's tactics you should be quite dominant in games. Shame Suarez is throwing his toys out of the pram.

Would you not play Lucas behind Gerrard?

Matt Lowton -------Jores Okore----------------Ron Vlaar (c)-----------(??)

-----------------Ashley Westwood-------Yacouba Sylla--------------------

Andi Weimann---------------Christian Benteke-------------Gabby Agbonlahor

There's no point slinging in anyone rumoured in the press or I want to sign in this team, got to be realistic, else I might swop Messi for Weimann at a push ;)

There's been a derth of new signings, the majority have little or nothing known about them, although Okore looked very good vs Chelsea in the Champions League.

The others have to be on my bench at the moment - Tonev looks useful, Helenius I hope is backup, rather a replacement for the Beast up top, whilst Luna and Bacuna are definitely risks, although I understand Bacuna is highly rated in Holland.

Hope Joe Bennett never plays at left back again, so often found wanting or out of position.

Have heard tentative rumours about a move back for Gareth Barry - personally would love to see him back and he would offer good experience in the side alongside Westwood.

PL is definitely doing the right thing shipping out the big earners.

Man City 1st XI:
------------------Hart
Zabaleta---Kompany---Lescott---Clichy
---------Fernandinho---Barry
---Navas--------Toure-------Silva
----------------Aguero

Man City 2nd XI:
---------------Pantilimon
Maicon---Richards---Nastasic---Kolarov
----------Rodwell----Garcia
---Milner--------Nasri------Sinclair
----------------Dzeko

Most people would probably put Nastasic in ahead of Lescott but I thought he was very hard done by and was very strong in their title winning season. Was tempted to put Nasri in for Barry and drop Toure deeper but felt it gave a better balance to the two sides like this as it would be hard to to fit Barry, Rodwell and Garcia in the same team.

Having sold Balotelli and Tevez and not renewing RSC contract, I think they desperately need to bring in a striker, with Llorente and Falcao already having made their moves and Napoli supposedly playing hardball over Cavani, maybe someone like Hulk would fit the bill.

It's just a little hobby of mine over the past 20 years or so, I like making up my choice of team for other clubs and this seemed like the best thread to put it :)

MU First XI:
--------------De Gea
Rafael----Jones-----Vidic----Evra
--------------Carrick
---Valencia---Kagawa---Young
-------Rooney---Van Persie

MU 2nd XI:
--------------Lindergaad
Smalling---Ferdinand---Evans---Buttner
Nani------Cleverley---Anderson---Zaha
----------Hernandez--Wellbeck

Jones ahead of Rio probably raises a few eyebrows given the latter was in the EPL team of the year last season. Also perhaps a risk of the first XI getting overrun in midfield.
