Pardew's wet dream.

Man City.
4231 whilst I think is a good formation. It is highly unlikely we will use it. More 433 and 4222 by all accounts.

Barry won't play much if at all next season, possibility he might be sold this summer. Rodwell in the first team if fit.
Nastasic in the first team as well after last season. Lescott could be sold if the rumours about Marquinhos etc are true.

As for a new striker, I heard we are looking at Cardozo, Negredo, Osvaldo and Gomez.
Not seen much of any of them apart from Gomez but bar Osvaldo they have decent goal scoring records especially Gomez.
I think a player who can play across the front line and upfront would be good though eg Jovetic.

Well they were both pretty dire last season. Valencia is afraid to run at people and Young consistently can't beat the first defender with crosses. I can't see them striking fear into anyone. Unless we're going to buy at least two wingers then I'd rather we just didn't bother. Play to your strengths. Evra and Rafael are both better going forward than Young and Valencia.

Do you reckon a 5 3 2 could work with Rafael and Evra/Baines being wing backs?

The only reason I went with a 4 - 4 - 2 is the traditions of the club, who have always had traditional wide players /wingers on the pitch.

Of course on occasion SAF dabbled with 4-3-3 but for the most part our best sides have always been the former.

At the moment Utd don't have any decent wingers - and apart from Bale / Ronaldo (which are never going to happen) - I haven't seen Utd really linked with any

I don't know, I always find 3 centre backs a bit of an odd set up, it would require 3 defenders who are very good at communicating.
Some variation of 4-3-3 would be my preference but it depends who we sign and sell.

Ferdinand from Team of the Season to not even Second XI material? And I take it you're assuming Vidic is off to Milan?

Also, have you seen Garay defend? This is the guy who couldn't make it at Madrid and was signed to Benfica as a footballing defender to replace Luiz because he's similar. The guy constantly plays like he's going to make a ballsup, worries me we're in on him for so much, especially given he doesn't dominate an area (and Evans certainly doesn't. Weak in the air and out-muscled too easily)

Something like this?

Thinking Kagawa and Baines would interplay very well.

I'd be very much for that, except for Cleverley. I'm not for players who pass the buck on others because they play like they're afraid to do stuff themselves. He's also one of the worst players I've ever seen for United at tracking opposition players within 10 yards of our box. He just switches off and lets his man get a run in the box, it's suicidal.

Getting him out of the team at the end of the last season is the best thing we could have done, we were stronger defensively (because of the above) and looked more creative going forward because Cleverley was constantly giving the ball straight back (like Rooney does.)

It's a shame because when he was with the youth set up I'd talk him up constantly and he looked brilliant at Watford, a friend of mine who follows them still mentions how good he was, but with our senior set up he's a completely different player.

Zaha is untested too of course and, if after a Summers rest, Valencia comes back to how he was in his first two seasons for us, brilliant, him and Rafael are the best link partnership we've had down the line since Beckham and Neville in their pomp.

Preferably i'd like an enforcer where Cleverley is, whether that be Strootman or whoever we would go for.

Zaha i'm wanting to picked and patient with ala Ronaldo, he was a showboat to begin with but clearly had fantastic feet. If Zaha can emulate a similar ethic and be honed i think we could see great things from him. Raw as a blue steak right now. but hell i just don't have that much of a stiffy for Valencia, he's a run and gun winger with very little finesse or creativity in his delivery.

I find Valencia hilarious. Run really fast to the byline and smack it as hard as possible across the box.

To be fair to Valencia he's pretty much the only Premiership winger I can ever remember making Cole look like a pub player in a game a couple of years back. He had the likes of Ronaldo in his pocket no problem.
I'm not really Valencia's biggest fan but Nani had some SHOCKING games last season, one in particular he was just constantly giving the ball away when passing, on the rare occasions it didn't just bounce off him for a throw-in (he was trapping the ball further than I can kick it).

go rewatch Valencia vs Chelsea last season. 99% pass to the opponent ratio. was ******* appalling.

everybody has bad games, but Valencia had an awful season. Nani has far more creative output, and i'm not his biggest fan either considering he blows hot and cold week in week out.

1 - I was meaning the regular starters, not for the big matches (even Rio has stated during the 12/13 season he cant play week in week out any more, and with the fixtures at the start Im not sure he will be capable of playing all of them back to back).

Yes I think Vidic is probably gone (like Evra). Im not saying Garay is the right choice, but if the club is spending ~ £17m on a senior player then he is likely to start. I just cant see Smalling and Jones starting for the "senior" side any time soon - regularly as a pairing. Just from the numbers if Garay does join surely Vidic has to leave?

Vidic's agent has came out tonight and confirmed there's nothing in the rumours linking him with Milan #justsayin
