Picky eaters

Stupid comment, when I was a child I didn't eat for about two weeks as my mum was trying to 'introduce' me to new foods eventually she gave me what I wanted as the doctor advised not eating for that length of time could harm me.

I don't choose to be fussy I just can't eat a lot of things for example a simple boiled pea will make me retch, is not the taste or flavour in that case it's all to do with texture. It's a recognised medical condition which many professionals believe to be caused by overly sensetive pallets making things that taste normal to you taste like satans spawn to me.

Not sure where this thread has gone from the original title...

But i hate picky eaters...

I hate peas... but thats about it. People that um and ahh at this and that should be given a packet of sweets and left to play in the corner :)

ooooouch!

Rather than telling you what I don't eat, it'll be easier to tell you what I do eat:
Crikey, that's awful! There's really only two meals there: Cheese Sandwich and Chips or Cheese Sandwich and Crisps!

At least you eat fruit, I suppose...

I love food of all types.

I'm not keen on ridiculously hot curry because I like to actually taste food and can't see much point spicing things to a point where they are not far off inedible. I can't get overly excited about rice, swede or liver but I'll eat all three.

When I used to go away with Thomson to various countries it struck me how many fussy eaters there are. A Greek hotel laid on a full Greek banquet for us full of traditional foods. I'd say 20 out of 30 of the group had some bread, potatoes and chips and a couple tried some of the chicken. That was it.
Mentalists! I ate everything that was put in front of me, and it was all fantastic.

Did I mention I love food? :D

Cheese sandwiches are awesome

Cheese and pickle sandwich..

Cheese and primula sandwich

Cheese and tomato sandwich...

I love cheese sandwiches, sometimes i can just put cheese in 2 slices of bread and that is it, dry but.mmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm TASTE MAXIMUS

Nothing else... no meat, no veg, no pasta - nothing! A typical day involves a helluva lot of cheese sandwiches!

Do you not get bored of such a diet? No meat at all? What about fish?

I'm, really surprised.

They should have remorselessly beaten you.

Parents shouldn't crumble to the whims of kids. I had to do lots of things I didn't like when I was a child, in the long run most of it has turned out to be benificial to me.

I agree with this. The only way you'll know if you like it, is if you taste it. Although saying that i am put off by things because of the smell and sometimes appearance. :o

I won't touch seafood, mushy peas, brussels sprouts, and nothing "weird" like horse/dog/snail or animal organs (heart/liver etc).

Girlfriend on the other hand, well it's easier to list what she DOES eat.

Chicken Nuggets (have to be a certain brand/size)
Sausages (have to be a certain brand/size)
Skips (prawn cocktail)
Strawberries (no other fruit though)
Milk chocolate (no white or plain)
Cheese (must be grated)
And she ONLY drinks coke/pepsi. No water, orange, tea, coffee.

She also likes fast food (burgers, chips).

Drives me around the flippin' bend. :(

Fussy eaters don't really annoy me, I just feel a bit sorry for them. For example the guy that said he didn't like roast lamb. Astounds me, as I personally think it's one of the most delicious tastes I can think of, and for someone to have a disliking to it makes me feel like they're missing out.

Funnily enough I used to be very, very fussy as a child. Sounds harsh, but I partially blame my mother's (even though I appreciate all she has done for me) way of cooking. Once I discovered my own way of cooking - I tasted a lot of things how they're supposed to be cooked, and all my previous misconceptions about food were shattered.

There's a very small percentage of foods I dislike. The only ones I can think of that I find really unpleasant to eat are Avocado pear and blue cheese. Although I can still eat it - I dislike heavily processed "food" if you want to call it that, such as 'Cheezestrings' for example. But I class that as rubbery fake food that doesn't even qualify :) I also have a disliking for baked beans, which a lot of people find a bit strange. If I'm having an english breakfast it'll be extra tomatoes or mushrooms I'm afraid.

Everything else from seafood to oriental to eating animal organs I'm fine with. I think all fruits and pretty much all veg also. Which in contrast to my younger years is a huge difference.

I dont like chilli con carne (sp) or lasagne.
But thats understandable as they look, taste and smell like vomit.

Have you ever cooked a proper Con Carne or Lasagne?

Because I'm fairly sure they do not smell like vomit. Perhaps some of the ready meal/tinned versions, but not a proper one.

I dont understand what you mean by 'plain'? Is growing on a tree, or being picked from the ground, then put on sale not 'plain' enough for you? What on earth is wrong with you? How can you possibly not like a sweet juicy apple for a snack, or strawberries and cream for dessert, etc.. god i could go on. Honestly my mind boggles at the thought of someone 'not liking' pretty much half a normal persons diet. No offence, of course.

As you can probably tell. I hate picky eaters with a passion. They're probably right up there with smokers to be honest (hmn.. nah)! I reckon there's something hugely immature about having a blanket dislike to any type of food. It's just ludicrous. Especially not liking fruit and veg. I dont mean to insult, but that just smacks of someone who's not grown up beyond seeing green food and going 'eww mummy i dont want it'. It's not like all fruit and veg tastes remotely the same, is it? So how can you possibly sit there and say you dont like any?

Spot on, I agree 100%.

I had to eat everything as a kid, if it wasn't eaten I got nothing else to eat. And guess what? I absolutely love food. There's hardly a single thing I won't eat.

The only food that really turns my stomach is fresh fish, I find the taste really unpleasant. But I'd never, ever not eat a meal that had been prepared for me.

I work in a bar/restaurant and the most annoying thing is parents who bring their kids in. The kids at the first sign of a salad will point to it and go "MUMMY I DON'T WANT IT!!!!", and often the parents will ask me to remove it from the plate!! Argh what is wrong with you! What is wrong with your children! Just make them eat it, or at the very least leave it on the plate!....
