Picky eaters

Well, i'm about as picky as they come

Wont touch fruit, wont touch veg, anything that isnt 'plain' is basically a no for me

I dont have a reason to be picky, im not allergic or anything i just dont like them, it makes me feel bad in restaraunts but i cant particualrly help it, thankfully many people accept that

same here for me to, but you really do feel bad when your out for a work doo and you end up eating the most boring meal in the world but hey, ill eat it, id rather do that than order something that ill never eat and everyone thinking im some sort of weirdo

Did I mention I love food? :D

Same here - I'll gobble up anything but celery. Cooked and put with other stuff it's OK, but to just eat what is essentially the stringy stem of a foul-tasting plant on it's own, raw, really doesn't appeal.

Anything else, load me up!

My mate's little brother has always been a fussy eater, surviving mainly on crisps, cheese and cucumber when he was younger. Now he's about 18 he's starting to blame his mother for not introducing him to more foods when he was growing up, which she clearly tried to do as my mate and his other brother turned out fine. Now he wants to join the army but can't, not because they won't take him, but because he knows he won't eat 99% of what they serve up. Ludicrous.

I'm a picky eater when it comes to meat. I can't stand eating the edges of meat , meat with fatty bits and meat thats chewy. I'm thinking of becomming vegetarian but I miss my burgers and chicken to much :(

I dont understand what you mean by 'plain'? Is growing on a tree, or being picked from the ground, then put on sale not 'plain' enough for you? What on earth is wrong with you? How can you possibly not like a sweet juicy apple for a snack, or strawberries and cream for dessert, etc.. god i could go on. Honestly my mind boggles at the thought of someone 'not liking' pretty much half a normal persons diet. No offence, of course.

As you can probably tell. I hate picky eaters with a passion. They're probably right up there with smokers to be honest (hmn.. nah)! I reckon there's something hugely immature about having a blanket dislike to any type of food. It's just ludicrous. Especially not liking fruit and veg. I dont mean to insult, but that just smacks of someone who's not grown up beyond seeing green food and going 'eww mummy i dont want it'. It's not like all fruit and veg tastes remotely the same, is it? So how can you possibly sit there and say you dont like any?

I'll try anything once, and i cant rememebr not liking anything i've tried, yet.

You don't half like getting wound up about things that don't affect you :/

Have you ever cooked a proper Con Carne or Lasagne?

Because I'm fairly sure they do not smell like vomit. Perhaps some of the ready meal/tinned versions, but not a proper one.

No just fake ones.
For christ sake.

To the people who "don't touch fruit or veg"... how exactly do you not get ill all the time? Not eating fruit & veg will result in some pretty sever vitamin deficencies!

Only thing I've found that I physically can't eat is that jelly you get in pork pies and corned beef. Just thinking about that stuff makes me want to puke. It's sort of yellow coloured and comes in big blobs so you take a bite out of a pork pie and chew through the pastry and porky goodness only to encounter a squidgy middle with the consistency of jelly but oh no it's not sweet, it tastes like the foulest fat that has been congealing in the fridge for a month. As you keep chewing it ends up all over the inside of your mouth in between your teeth and takes ages to swallow while trying to fight the urge to blow chunks of jelly covered pie all over the place.

I very very rarely eat any fruit or veg, and often eat a lot of sweets, pizzas and chocolate, plus a large amount of meat, and i've been told i'm as healthy as a person with a normal healthy diet. I am a very fussy eater.

I don't know how I don't get ill, I just don't.

I eat most things but cant stand offal, or fat on meat or bones. I also cant eat fish at all due to being mentally scared when i lifted a metal bin lid in the middle of summer and there was a rotting fish inside  . Ive never touched fish since.

It annoys me that someones parents have allowed their child to get away with not eating the food they are given, in my house I was damn grateful for what I got.
Plus these food racist people just need a slap, the food may not be english but it's good food. Especially the sort of bloke the threadstarter mentioned, who says he only eats english food but won't actually eat it.
Fussy eaters, stupid, especially if they won't even try the food.

I'll eat pretty much anything, I love quite a few different kinds of offal which many people stay away from. Rabbit brain on toast, loverly stuff.

I'm not surprised. A chicken is a chicken. The sauce is probably what they slave over and what makes the meal what it is! :p

wrong.

go get a tescos chicken and go get a plain chicken from a decent restaurant. you will taste and feel the difference in the 2 of them very easily.

when i goto nandos i have plain chicken, dont want any of the sauce.

i dont touch spicy food, or seafood (in general), nothing with peppers in it. i dont have veg and i dont have much salad.

do i care that i am deemed to be fussy? not at all. I will eat at almost any restaurant that specialises in any food, as most places now have an english option (even if its only an omlette). i have never stopped friends of family going to a curry house just because i do not eat curry, i still go with them even tho i think that the places stink.

Stuff I won't eat:

Bananas
Brussell sprouts

Anything else (including all manner of foreign cuisine) is fair game. That might explain why I'm such a fat git :p.

I can't really empathise with people who won't at least try new things. At the end of the day, it's all food, it's not going to kill you even if you don't like the taste and you might just find something new that you like!

Depends. Sometimes I'm quite fussy, others I'll eat anything. I've eaten dog, fish heads, octopus, sea sponge/cucumber, tripe, chickens feet.... bah.... bring on the food!

I'm hungry now :(

Edit - Not keen on mushrooms or ANY salad dressing (why ruin something so fresh and tasty with poop?)

Edit 2 - Thinking about it I'm lying my ass off, won't eat: butter, marg, mayo, salad cream etc...

Edit 3 - don't like salt much... don't add salt to anything pre, during or post cooking.

I'll have a crack at most things (proof enough of that in my ever increasing waist size :/)

Few things I'll tun my nose up at though:

Mushrooms - Not keen on the taste and the texture is icky
Spinach - I had some on holiday. Tasted funny. Was told it was cabbage damn lying parents....
Any Fish - used to love it as a kid now the smell puts me off and makes me feel somewhat sick
Celery - smells foul

Fruit - most of it. Only really like Bananas but willing to try other things out :)

Oh and all the people who hate brussel sprouts? Stop whinging and sit tight till the fresh UK ones come back into the shops properly in November-ish :) AWESOME :D

fat on meat or bones

when i have a bacon sarnie at work i sit there for about 10 minutes picking all the rind off, and wiping fat away off the bacon with a napkin... i used to be the laughing stock of the office at one point :p

hate mushrooms, brussel sprouts, spinach, butter beans, all forms of pork and lamb, cooked carrots, turnip, coffee, aubergines(spelling).asparagus, cabbage, lemon

Reminds me... I have three close to date aubergines in the fridge; I will cook and eat them tonight.

I am the least fussy eater I know. I will eat anything that is classed as food. I have fondness for chicken, noodles and potatoes, but I cannot think of a single food that I wouldn't readily eat. This is from someone who has eaten Japanese natto too.

I don't like onion or cooked tomatoes really, but that's about it.

Shame - you get greater nutrition from cooked tomatoes.

I'll basically eat all foods these days, even though I was quite a bit fussier as a kid. But, it really has to be cooked to my satisfaction. Things I can't abide by are undercooked chips/potatoes and really cheap ham and other cheap reconstituted meats.

I'm surprised by the number that won't eat seafood. If you have some really good stuff, I'm sure it would change your mind.

Those that can't eat "plain" things like a lot of vegetables etc are probably suffering from an addiction to salt.

I hought i was picky, but im not as bad as a lot of people here.

Cannot stand salady stuff, tomatoes, lettuce etc and then most of the hated veg, cabbage, celery, sprouts, brocolli etc. Also cant stand fish, used to love it as a kid but not now.

As for meat, ill eat almost everything, as a kid id only eat white meat, but now im happy to eat almost any meat.

Steak and ale pie with chips and peas >*
