Picky eaters

I have always eaten everything.

However....

The other day I was really hungry. (I keep eating for some reason). I had just had a massive steak dinner. (I grow like a weed  , already 6'4" :( and my doctor tells me there is more to come).

So I decided to have some sardines. So I was putting yon little fish on my toast when I saw its spine. How freaky is that? Im eating an entire fish and I am worried about the spine. However I got over it and picked the spine up. The this little string came out of the spine. Im assuming it was the spinal cord  :o
Has put me off.

I could have sworn the sardine was looking at me with mournful eyes :D "Why did you cripple me?"

A friend of mine is like this, although not as bad as the OP's experience (beans on toast? WTF!?) we went to an incredible chinese restaurant and my good buddy ordered a steak and chips, he was very displeased to learn they didn't have any ketchup when his meal arrived. He complained and left.

Un-ba-bloody-lieve-a-ble.

I don't eat fruit. I've tried various forms of it but each time it was a completely unsatisfactory experience. I'm convinced that humans are not supposed to eat that stuff, the taste is fine but the textures involved make me retch.

Grapes?
Apples?
Oranges?
Satsumas?
Peaches?
Nectarines?
Bananas?
Melon?

I just don't understand the disliking of every single fruit though when there's so many and so many difference ones...

Sure there is a wide variety of the stuff but, by and large, it's all just a mass of stringy, squashy, slimy, sour flesh. Yuk. There's something in my brain that tells me eating fruit is not a good idea.

Try eating fruit that arnt over or under ripe then:p

Strawberries? Everyone loves straberries! They're not stringy, not squashy, not slimy, and definitely not sour.

Grapes? Sweet, crisp and very easy to eat. :)

I'll eat pretty much anything. Whenever I go to a restaurant I'll always order the most unusual thing on the menu, just because I like to try things i've not had before.

I'd of starved at home growing up if i was a fussy eater, as my parents have always enjoyed food from all over the world, and its what i grew up on.

Fussy eaters generally don't annoy me, but I always think life must be desperately bland for them. I do remember taking an ex of mine and her best friend and boyfriend out to an expensive modern european restaurant for my ex's birthday, and her friend just sat and picked at everything because it was 'too fussy', 'not plain', made no effort to try and enjoy the food and then had a burger king afterwards, I was just like wtf?

I get pretty annoyed at fussy eaters, ive spent many many hours trying to get my sister to try a new dish that i cook at home (sadly not at home anymore but if i go to visit i try to cook something new). After a year or 2 she finally tried her first curry, very mild, and what a suprise, she actually liked it. Of course 2 weeks later when she wanted to eat chips curry was one of her hates for that day.

Imo its all psychological, you convince yourself that you dont like it because you'd prefer something else. Im sure a lot of people would prefer chips and a burger but theyve grown up enough to realise a balanced diet is a lot better for oneself and you get to have a variety here n there.

I used to be a bit fussy myself, quite possibly due to my mother being a very fussy eater herself but i have my dad to thank for him cooking loads of different dishes and pretty much making me eat them. Once ate, they were pretty good and im starting to take after him. Although my mum didnt eat some of the dishes she'd still cook them for me so i'm pretty grateful for that too, even she's starting to eat a few different things now so its never too late to stop being such a picky eater.

A few of my food dislikes though include:

Melon - i just dont like the taste, almost soapy or something to me.
Tuna - other fish is generall fine except scampi, again its just the taste im not a fan of.
Very fatty meat - You know the kind where its half fat half meat and takes quite a bit of chewing :(

Thats about all i can think of now, though i havent tried things like squid and similar seafoods/exotic animals. The above though i'll still eat if its put infront of me when im a guest somewhere, would be a bit rude not to?

The chef guy was talking about that with generic mushrooms most people make the mistake of washing them. When they do that and then cook them; that's what makes them so 'slimy'. Because they soak up all the water. You should either cook them unwashed, or peel them. I've never tried it as i quite like the texture and peeling mushrooms takes too much time

Quick wipe with a damp cloth sorts them out, a J-cloth or similar works perfectly well for cleaning mushrooms and doesn't leave them soggy.

I used to be much more of a fussy eater in that I prefered plain foods (I still do to an extent) as I like the individual flavours and textures but now I'll eat almost anything with the provisio that it is vegetarian since I am. Not fond of avocados though, slimy mess that they are, although oddly enough I don't mind guacamole too much.

I love food so I will try anything once, weirdest thing I've tried was live squid :D
But some things I don't eat, marmite I can't stand (guess it's just an english thing but I can't stand it), I NEVER eat beef of any sort unless its mince so I never have any steaks.
Had a very bad stomach infection a couple of years ago due to a badly cooked steak, was in intensive care for 2 weeks :( .
But I usually try the weirdest thing on the menu :p .

OMG i'm feeling hungry now :D

I'll eat anything tbh, although i'm not too keen on strong tasting fish, usually a sign of poor quality fish anyway (on a side note i'd kill for some sushi now). I also can't eat a lot of egg either, i actually like eating it but if i eat a lot it makes my tongue itch and the back of my throat feel strange but that could well be an allergy tbh.

Once you get past the initial "it's the guts of an animal" offal is damn tasty. In fact a good piece of lamb's liver cooked with orange and onion is one of my favourite meals.

That strawberry is really making my mouth water lol, i'm off to stuff my face...

Your wierd

I'm a picky eater, but i'm trying my best to change that.
Infact only a few days ago i've started eating better foods and resisting the temptation to go to fast-food take-aways.

I'd love to try lots of food, but to be quite honest most days after work I need food, Im hungry, and I don't want to waste money on loads of different things I end up not liking, but again, trying to change that.
