Pico 4 out soon?

Got my Pico 4 and as a standalone vr headset...its not that good.

Yeah the lenses are better than quest 2 and love the colour pass through but the store is quite bad and a lot of the games on the store are not as updated as the quest versions with missing mod support as well

Going to return mine as don't have gaming pc and don't see how pico will be supporting the pico enough as quest has several games out this month....most of them are pcvr and quest only.

Shocking for standalone users

Virtual Desktop i use, Oculus games will run through that (PCVR)
besides that, its Very early days mate, its a new company into VR etc, so it wont be as polished as the quest 2, but they will get better with updates, theres a ton of companies that will now support the pico 4, they just need to make them over form oculus to pico, but they are coming

to be honest I got the quest 2 on release and had a bunch of issues getting it to work - buggy software etc ... would take me like an hour to get a game working.
I returned it and then got it again 6 months ago - things were much improved ... really didnt have any issues.

who knows with pico but I understand - if you just bought for stand alone prob disappointed coming from a quest 2.

I'm surprised, after all the videos and reviews stating that the P4 was only worth the upgrade from a Q2 if you have a gaming PC, that you actually went out and bought one.

Unbelievably i'm still waiting for my refund from systemactive..they emailed me yesterday morning saying sorry for the delay and my refund should be back in my account in a few hours from sagepay...i'm still waiting.

must admit my experience of systemactive has been ok. they refunded me for a varjo aero 5 months after buying it although i did need to prod them (one time only) for the refund to be made but the return experience on the whole was ok. i would still rather buy from amazon though as they do 30 days rather than 14 for a no quibble refund.

I wouldn't get too excited about wigig (ok, maybe a little). It's basically just much faster wifi, about the same bandwidth as a USB cable. The PC will still have to encode the video, and the headset will decode it. Higher bitrate, higher latency. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, but nowhere near a dedicated displayport connection.

The only way to do it properly is through an 802.11ay adapter plugged into your GPU. AFAIK, they don't exist.

:edit: Actually, even 802.11ay doesn't have the required bandwidth to natively run the pico 4. The best wireless PC VR experience will be a combination of the new AV1 codec and some form of wigig. The next qualcomm gen2 soc supports AV1, maybe in the quest3?

If you guys don't mind, getting my pico 4 later today, what updates/downloads/settings should I do to get this 'fully' functioning.

Heard updating firmware, virtual desktop (now I buy this on the pico store not the steam store?), change to 90hz, make sure its on 5ghz WiFi?

I don't have many games on steam atm: alyx, walking dead, blade/sorcery, but black Friday will be soon so will look to get a bunch.

Any recommended via steam or pico?

Personal preference really. You might favor lower graphics for higher framerate. In any case, this should get you started.
