piracy? lets solve it with a letter!

I have a great idea, why don't they just get ISPs to block access to certain pirate websites, that'll just stop people from getting their hands on torrents all together.

Thank God I'm not with Sky, Virgin, Talk Talk, or BT then

That only leaves EE and I think their going to follow suit.

Same here, I'm with plusnet and just got my unlimited fibre!! Let the carnage commence!!

Plusnet are resellers of BT, anything BT does will effect them.

The are only 5 main residential broadband suppliers in the UK, others just resell it, the main ones are BT, EE, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin.

I still download Blu-ray Rips and Albums quite often, usually for stuff I'm not sure if I'll like

Never received a letter, although I suspect I download a lot less than some people

Yep times change when I was a kid I used to love going on holiday because it meant I could go to the pier at Bournemouth and blow all my money on Outrun and the Star Wars game with the vector graphics and you did the trench run. Fast forward to today and I just have Steam. Music well I got Spotify. Films and TV - Netflix is well behind the curve.

I think it will make a difference.

a lot of the appeal for downloading is the anonymity,

For one, I think kids downloading games and movies will be a bit wiser when their parents pick up a letter saying it has come to our attention that you have a bit of a habit of violating copy right law. This is illegal and could result in a criminal conviction in the future.

Also reminding people that they know who they are and what they are doing will go along way to alter this mindset that because it's the internet you aren't accountable.

I completely agree. There's no doubt a significant number of people who download without the bill payers permission and said bill payer may not be impressed to get letters in the post about it.

Simple really. I used to download all my albums via Napster and Bittorrent, then Spotify came out. I haven't downloaded any music illegally for years.

If the entertainment industry pulled their finger out and realised that it's two-thousand and fourteen and not the nineteen-fifties and provided a Spotify-like service most people wouldn't pirate except the die-hards. Netflix is great, but if I want to listen to an album on release day I can boot up Spotify. If I want to watch a show on release day I either have to buy Sky or pirate.

Why haven't they learned their lesson? They realised how to monopolise on VHS after they tried to ban it for years, same for MP3s and now for TV and film.

I'm the same, Spotify Premium for music and same for films/TV Shows.

Bwhahaha

Virgin blocked access to pirate bay...30 seconds later, virgin customers are on Pirate Bay :D

Hopefully.... it is potentially a bit of a trojan horse - if it isn't seen to work to some extent the entertainment industry will use its ineffectiveness to push for stricter regulation.

What kind of question is that? They'll never be illegal... Do you know what a VPN is and what one is most commonly used for?

funny you guys should mention spotify.....as last night I started the free premium 30 day trial. LOVE IT! plus, it's not just a place to listen to music, but to find other artists you may not have heard of. It's very good.

I have no objection to piracy, quite the opposite. I used to be a prominent scene member, and personally take pride that in a small way forced the music industry to change.

These days, I just can't be bothered with it anymore.

Finding retail rips at decent quality, then going through sorting out the ID3 tags, finding the art work, realising that some muppet who put RETAIL actually ripped the individual tracks from seperate albums......just no!

Hopefully over the next few years we'll have a service which has access to all the studios content.

Plusnet are owned by BT but operate as a separate company. Piratebay for example has been blocked on BT for nearly a year but on Plusnet it was still available 24/7 a few months ago and now still works sometimes (depending on whether they are using BT's gateway at the time).

So who are these then...
