Planet Coaster

...and plenty of us picked it up for £20 before mid-August which was the last chance to get it before it went up 50% to retail price.

Yeah £19.99 I paid as a pre-order. Built my whole PC for this game lol. I'd pay £30 though - that's was a fairly typical price for a game back in the day.

Some real gems on the workshop already, seen as the map size is 2.5x larger I decided to start again and throw a hotel near the entrance...

Its a good game guys if you like tycoon games.

A little shallow on the management side but knowing Frontier they will fix it.

One of the best to come out in a long time that's for sure. ;)

I just watched the "Worth A Buy" review of Planet Coaster, and he made comments on how easy it all is - Which I find a little disappointing... One of my favourite parts of these sort of games, is the management side of things. In Rollercoaster Tycoon, I would give myself a small budget to start with, and work my way up to a big park - Rather than starting with unlimited funds and just playing around.

Any comments on the management side of things?

The "Challenge" mode is pretty much this - a blank park like "Sandbox" mode but with finances turned on and a small starting budget, with many rides etc. locked behind research...

I guess the management side of things is fairly easy but I don't feel like it's that much easier than RCT3 - maybe in the beginning you have to be careful not to overspend or be too ambitious but you eventually hit a tipping point and the cash stops being an issue... after that your focus shifts to optimising park rating and having everything operating efficiently

Some amazing things on the workshop already, I started a sandbox but think that due to not having the best brain for designing I might just stick with the career for now.

I spent 10 hours on an entrance to my park, apart from completing the pirate career missions this is all I have done.

Can see myself losing days of my life over this, trying to design a coaster that doesn't make people want to immediately puke is a challenge in itself.

Hopefully we get some of the good UI changes which have been submitted by the users on reddit, some of them were very good.

It's all too easy to make a profitable park fairly quickly. I don't think it's any coincidence that the management side was released to beta in full form just before release. It feels like currently the sandbox elements are definitely release quality and very good but the management side of the game is very much in alpha. For a fan of the tycoon elements to the game it doesn't hit the spot imo, however, people who just enjoy the freedom to build and create to their hearts content will love it.

Pretty close to my views of the game. It's a good base but they really need to work on the tycoon aspects as currently I feel like I'm on autopilot with regards every decision with minimal consequence as I can still make a profit.

Picked this up and glad to see from this thread that my initial impression of it being way too easy is echoed by others. Having said that, and knowing Frontier developments, it'll get improved over time with updates.

Does seem to be a very stable release, and very polished.

I miss some elements of RT3 though, like visiting dignitaries you have to please. Overall the campaign in RT3 felt better, but this looks the absolute nuts. Riding your own coaster in this engine on a freesync monitor can be quite nausea inducing, which I count as a good thing :)

I'm absolutely in love with this game, just something great to kick back to and relax. For me, it's all about challenge mode, slow at the start but you do have to be careful placing rides and scenery as money is so tight to start out, plus you need to research as you go along which IMO is way more rewarding than just playing Sandbox with unlimited money and all unlocked.

My little park so far, took a few ideas from some online videos, but the work is all mine.

Building a 5/5/5 Coaster in the fourth career scenario was a pain in the ass!
That is all.

Also for people saying its too easy, do career mode... It at least makes you think about more than just park revenue.

This is a shame. Will probably pick this up next year when it is in the bargain bins then.

Personally, I'm finding Challenge Mode and Career Mode names are round the wrong way.

What they're calling Career Mode is a series of challenges, and what I'd like to be Career Mode (starting with the basics and having to work your way up and develop your park and money) is a series of challenges where there's already loads of park in place already. Anyone else think this?

On the subject of Challenge Mode being too easy - in what way? I'm finding money very tight at the start, especially as you need to research the good stuff. Even terrain-building - have to wait ages to do so as it's so expensive!

Here's something I think they could try to add to make the tycoon part of the game a bit more interesting...

They currently have some basic elements of a time-of-day, though it feels sort of half-implemented. If they completed that, and introduced changing weather, there would be some good opportunities to affect the gameplay:

* When it's raining guest numbers drop overall, and the guests that do come will prefer rides and areas that are covered
* When it's fair weather you have normal guest numbers and a normal spread of ride preferences
* On very hot sunny "perfect" days guest numbers are higher and outdoor rides and particularly water rides are highly sought after

It would add another layer to things - have it so that you can adjust things like prices etc. using a schedule which reflects the current conditions - maybe you want to charge just a little more for those cool slushies on the hot sunny days, and close the slushy shops down completely on the wet days etc...

That would be cool but ohhhh the Micromanagement, by the time I chnage prices it would be the nezt season :p

On that note, I may be missing something, but is there an option to set the same prices at similar type food / drink etc venue's. I recall in RCT3 you had the option to set a similar price at the same type of facility, but here all one by one?

Doesn't appear to be, and a few people have been calling for it. Hopefully it'll get added soon, as it'll be a real ballache for large parks.

Some of these creations look amazing. I keep recreating my park because it just begins to look ugly. I'm playing in Challenge mode too as I want to manage the park and do research.

Still a very fun game though.
