Planet Coaster

Quick questions, what's this like in terms of adding in assets / building things?

I only played 15 mins or so last night and made a stupid mental roller coaster and didn't look into any of the design stuff.

I'm seeing picnic benches etc on steam workshop? Can you "make" assets, or import models etc?

(Talk technical to me, am a 3d modeller, basically i wanna make my own stuff, can I?)

Can't wait to sink some serious time into this though, it looks pretty damn good!

Okay baby... I'm gonna rotate you around the Y and Z-axes then scale-up and switch over to local co-ordinates to add positional key-frames with some clever duplication and use of the array modifier

Seriously though it's early days for modding yet, but I expect it'll become a reality eventually... What you can do for now is position the individual and fairly extensive set of small assets included in the game with a huge amount of freedom, including cloning/grouping etc. they've kind of just copied the interface of a typical 3d modelling application (with the same style of rotation/movement widgets etc.)

*throws tissue away

Oaaar that did it.

Well seeing as I've played 20 mins (most of that making a stupid coaster) and haven't looked into the game previously at all, I was just asking a straight forward question :P

I was only wondering if the stuff on steam workshop is custom made or some paint by numbers esque - mashing stuff together approach. Hopefully they continue the dev work and add some good bits in.

Its also "axis". :eek::rolleyes:

:P

I do like the axis tool though, it made me feel instantly comfy using the game where as my mate was all over the shop.

I'll have a proper looky tonight, pretty excited about it, and to get away from bf1 for a little bit!

Looking at some of the crazy builds I have seen I think the only limit will be your ability/imagination.

That's what i thought when seeing the game last night, all the little lanterns / buildings / fences etc. I would definitely be more than happy to invest time to knock out some assets for it :D

I'd love to know how this will run at 1440p for me. Can't really find anything conclusive, so wondering if anyone might have an idea.

I have: i7 4790k @ 4ghz, 16GB RAM, GTX 970 SLI

My worry is that there's not gonna be any SLI support, and I've heard a few reports of the game running like crap for some. Any truth in this or will I be okay at this resolution?

I don't believe there is any official SLI support, it will run fine though. The FPS only begins to tank once a park starts to fill up with people/scenery/rides.

Even then you can do things to try and maintain higher FPS, park layout etc

We're entering extreme mathematical pedantry here, but "axes" is correct when referring to the plural, as in "Y and Z-axes" :p *mathematical mic-drop, bish*

I bet people saying "verticee" and "vertexes" really grinds your gears too, eh? ;)

Burnnnnnnn.

Didn't get to play, took me a stupid long time to commute home. Bah! I really want to just sink a few days into this!

see some of my park in the spoiler tags, pretty much everything is custom

Finally got around to creating a custom building today, a bit fiddly to start with and took me a while to work out what I was doing, but happy with the result.

It was nothing fancy, just a little castle style shop, but I was still pleased with it and started to get me thinking about what else I might try.

Does anyone have any cheap go-to roller coaster designs they are willing to share?

In RCT2 I used to have some great little money makers, reverse chain lift with a loop and / or helix = £££, but in this I'm struggling to cheap cost down and get a decent excitement rating.

not sure tbh azza but if you use trigger and scenery it it helps excitement

just started a park based on Hollywood

Heads up..............

Christmas update incoming on this tomorrow with new rides, better management and a ton of new scenery items. :D

Just got this today and really enjoying it. Problem is, I'm noticing quite heavy FPS drops when zooming around the park. Is the game poorly optimised or is my GPU and CPU bottlenecking it? I really want about 50-60fps at max settings, but sometimes it's dropping to 15-20! I can't handle that.

i5 [email protected], 16GB RAM & 970GTX. Playing at 1080p.
