You mean the business remains open and shifts have to cover bank holidays? Strange way of phrasing it?

Exactly this. I’m not a royalist but you look at countries that either don’t have a monarchy or royal history (like the US), and those that have gotten rid of it. They are all undoubtedly worse for it.

If you want to complain about rich people skimming off everyone else there’s plenty of other targets. Bankers, hedge funders you never hear about, house builders, footballers etc. None of those do anywhere near as much work for this country as the royals do.

I’m in west London and basically every street around here is shutting down and having a party. Looking forward to it.
Not a Royalist either. But i can see the years of tradition and history and for all their faults, they do bring in the £££'s for the UK.

While people are shouting to get rid of them, bigger picture stuff, would the alternative be better?

Glad I'm 7 timezones away on the other side of the world enjoying 6 weeks annual leave so don't have to even know this Jubilee stuff is happening. Extra day of leave was welcome though, only good thing about it.

Yet while being 7 time zones away and enjoying your annual leave you decide to spend it commenting on a thread specifically about the jubilee, telling everyone how you don't care about it....

This thread is exactly what I thought it to be

Right, exactly . People are strange.

This.
Nominations for better systems for a Head of state. President, supreme leader, Chief, what have you.
Al least we know what we are getting for the better psrt of the next century and people can be as agnostic or fervent as they please. God forbid a party political election for a head of state every four years or so.

No, I mean they don't acknowledge bank holidays. They don't acknowledge any holidays; our rota is set in stone no matter what day it is or what time of year it is. No one can take a bank holiday off and no one can take e.g. Christmas Day off - the only exception is if cover is agreed with a colleague and even then management must agree to it.

Get a better job - only scummy employers don't pay extra for bank hols and include them in the minimum annual holiday allowance.

The Queen is head of state only in name though, so don’t confuse the systems.
The Queen is head of state. Just because she does not wield political power does not mean that she is not. It is a largely ceremonial role but there is a lot of soft power there particularly with overseas heads of state.

Sounds like your employers are taking the mick but whatever
He works in the oil and gas industry, important industries like national infrastructure dont stop just because it's a bank holiday

But yea @Dirk Diggler you're employers are taking the mick mate, you need to look for a better job, LOL, the cluelessness of office workers :p
