Neither do McDonald’s but they still recognise bank holidays. He works in the oil and gas industry, important industries like national infrastructure dont stop just because it's a bank holiday![]()
If it’s part time contract work maybe that’s exempt.

Dude, McDonald's are not essential national infrastructure and employees there don't need a helicopter to get home for the bank holiday.Neither do McDonald’s but they still recognise bank holidays.

Some workplaces are different from the 9 to 5, some people are self employed (I'm not) etc. So this bank holiday isn't universal, that's the only point being made
Yep, this is what you call a 'forum' where you post your opinion in 'topics'. Not really hard to understand, guess it is for you.Yet while being 7 time zones away and enjoying your annual leave you decide to spend it commenting on a thread specifically about the jubilee, telling everyone how you don't care about it....
Especially when the main character does/orders pretty much all of the killing!I have. I'm referring to the not killing, not stealing, respect each other bits - the highlights so to speak
The rest? Maybe not so much!
You need to pay more attention to save these yo-yo exchanges. As I said part time contracting (on an oil rig or whatever) is probably exempt - you made it sound like your employer was acting illegally so may be give more details in future.
Regardless you have my sympathies - living like a monk on some grim oil rig for 6 months at a time must be hell..
Lol - light on detail like your posts..You need to pay more attention to save these yo-yo exchanges.
For about the third time, I am not a part time employee. At no point did I suggest my employer was acting illegally, you just assumed that.
It's nice to receive your empathy but you're a little bit light on the detail, so it's probably misplaced.![]()
This thread is exactly what I thought it to be
Unless you have a requirement to wear them, i'd wait.Especially when the main character does/orders pretty much all of the killing!
Anyway, back to me grumbling to myself about the costs to remount my medals…
Are we expecting her to last much longer? I’ve got 3 years left and if there’s a coronation medal for Charles I’ll have to pay all over again…
Exactly. Some people wouldn't want to be stuck in an office in a pretend supervisor role on garbage money, others would prefer to travel for decent remuneration. I know people that hate working from home, others that love it. Some people could never work in healthcare, in the forces etc. It takes all sorts, but I think it's fair to say we're now miles off topic.Lol - light on detail like your posts..
Well oil rigs suit a certain type of person I guess but not for everyone.
I think what you may not be understanding is some places still open and require people to work on bank holidays so in a sense dont recognise bank holidays for the staff. How are you having such a hard time understanding that?Neither do McDonald’s but they still recognise bank holidays.

A bank holiday was meant to allow workers to have a day of on that day and provide a longer weeked. Just like sunday used to. If you have to work on a bank holiday then that bank holiday isnt recognised for what it is.What are you going on about? Loads of places stay open on a bank holiday but they still recognise that either by paying extra or providing alternative days off.
The exception seems to be oil rigs where staff do what they are told and don't complain.
Maybe in the olden days but its not the olden days any more..A bank holiday was meant to allow workers to have a day of on that day and provide a longer weeked. Just like sunday used to. If you have to work on a bank holiday then that bank holiday isnt recognised for what it is.
Yes because the term long weekend is never used any more.Maybe in the olden days but its not the olden days any more..
'Long weekends' aren't restricted to statutory holidays so not sure what your point is?Yes because the term long weekend is never used any more.
You sound like you need a couple of days off..It so hard not to swear at people at times on this forum.
