Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

I would agree with all of those. I suppose I have always been worried about being rubbish and it took a few parkruns etc for me to realise that it didnt really matter.

I am happy now to just work at improving things like breathing etc. rather than out and out speed.

Weight loss is also something that would make life a shedload easier. Currently around 17.5 stone (height: 6ft 2in) so just losing some of that will make a difference I am sure.

Another good weekend for PB's, well done to all!

You need to ignore this list training abd reside despite being sick tour legs are recovering from the training stress and you will come.back stronger and.more immune to injury. Not easy to be positive about it but there some plus points to complete rest.

At least that is what I try and tell myself!:D

Do you even English bro! :P It was fine, I took it as a sign to rest and didn't get worked up about it. Got out today for a 45 min workout, 10 min warm up, 12x1min fartlek with 1 min cool downs and another 10 min cool down.

I know I said it before, and I'll keep preaching it, really love fartlek!

Good luck to everyone in the London Marathon ballot, should all know by Monday the 10th based on their facebook post. [EDIT] My mistake, its from the 10th till 17th they are sending the results......I'm a little eager perhaps!

Ian_eb and Zatroichi: great to see you both getting on really well with your C25K, keep up the good work, it's all worth it in the end.

Ian_eb, if it helps to know, I'm 6ft 2 and I was about 16.5st when I started cycling, at about 15st I started running and within about 9 months I was at 13.5. That was in combination with very strict diet control via MyFitnessPal mind so not all exercise related but it really helped push me and now 2.5 years later is the reason I'm still in that region (though I like to think if I stopped tomorrow, I have that self control now to never get back in that state)

Well done DP and a good time too. That last picture, look of pure relief on your face? (I suspect most people, myself included, have that look)

"Fun" session today, usually I do a tempo type session on a Thursday but given the course for my next half I'm pushing the hill work. 6 reps in a 50 min session for 1100ft of climbing. I've not done masses of hill work lately so thought it was going to be mega tough, I could probably have done a couple more if I'd have had the time.

I started running back in July, having not really exercised since my son was born 4 1/2 years ago, and to be honest not a great deal for several years before that.

Never really done running before but felt it would be a good way to add to good weight loss that I've managed this year.

I've not had a great deal of time for it for various reasons so for the most part it's been once a week though in the last couple of weeks I've added a second run in.

Considering I felt like I might die after the first few steps when I started, I can now run 5km and I'm actually starting to look forward to doing it each time.

I'm running with someone from work and our aim back in July was to get to a point where we could do a 5k Park Run and run the whole thing. We are now looking at doing this at the end of this month and I'm quite looking forward to it.

At present I'm by no means fast, taking about 32 - 34 minutes for the 5km but I'm proud that I'm able to actually do it.

Nice work, DP.

I did my run today, 5k run in 31:25, I have literally never been quicker! Chuffed to bits with that! Especially as I only did 3 runs in Jul, one in Aug and a few more in Sep.

Started off at 6:45/km and then sped up each km until the 4th kilometer which was the fastest @ 5:57 but I was gone after that. Still managed a sprint finish after which I felt rather lightheaded.

I was buzzing for a good few hours after it, huge endorphin rush! Didn't manage to eat much after it until later this evening.

Now to run a sub 30! 25 would be amazing, one day. Until then, slow and steady it is...

Well done, sounds like a well paced race overall.

now you have a good target to work towards.

Did the 10k today, Great Scottish Run. Did it in 49.55. Had to walk three times for a few meters but really happy with the time. Not bad for a first ever 10k I think.
I've done a 10k before in training And that was 54 mins so good going I think.

How did you go from a 27 min 5k to a sub 50 min 10k that included some walking?

Very impressive. Strava link?

nice one sigma and valve :) keep it up - running is a great sport - love it

the more people you run with the better - so if you join a club its even more fun - there is always someone at your pace or slightly quicker so great way of pushing yourself

Ahleckz - great first 10k :)

I did a hilly 5 mile XC yesterday (well hilly for Essex anyway) was very pleased my time vs same course last year and year before - managed 32'22 which was 10 minutes quicker than last year and 7 minutes quicker than year before (when I was in decent shape)

:)

Well done sigma and valve90210, it sounds like you're making good progress and sensibly sticking to manageable goals before moving onto the next.

I did the Croydon 10km today and knocked over 4 minutes off my one and only previous recorded time for a 10km so was pretty pleased with that considering it was a hillier course than my previous one. I still need to improve by around 40 seconds to get under 40 minutes and maybe pace myself a bit better but it's heading in the right direction at least.

btw - anyone own a Fenix 3 ? the power button on my 310XT is getting a bit dodgey and fancy an upgrade

its done ok though - about 3 years old, about 2.5k miles, and numerous submersions in bogs and rivers during XC - so cant complain :)

Very nice semi-pro and buckster!

Good luck to all the London Marathon ballot entries, had mine in the post this morning and was sadly not successful.

cheers :)

and yup I had the same this morning - not successful - AGAIN :( can't remember how many times in a row now

do they ballot depending on written times on the entry form ? or is it genuinely random ? I couldn't find anything in the T&Cs one way or other

or use any other criteria, male/female etc ?
