Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

BOSH, PB at ParkRun this morning of 19:21 down fro 19:49. Not sure quite how it happened and I'm never that confident with the timing but I am still chuffed :D

Nice one dude! I smashed my pb as well, by 25 seconds, at Crystal Palace Parkrun with a 20:59. Whoop! Got my 20 there at last! Now I've got to work on getting that 19...

We also had the work 5k on Wednesday evening in Bushy park, which was my first timed 5k on the flat. Netted a 20:44 but I reckon I didn't run it very well. I was quite surprised how hard it is to run on the flat, I was really struggling by about the 4th km with a stitch, fatigue, overheating, dehydration etc :D

Sweet! I found the 20 minute barrier more psychological than anything. Give it a month or two with solid mid-week intervals and you'll be all over it ;) I need to do a flat 5k to see how the parkrun compares.

Managed to beat off the running blues i have had, and managed to bash out a 4 miler in 26:26mins;) not as fast as my best 26 min time but considering my recent low in training quite happy with it.

ow yer im doing a ultra-run london 2 brighton 64 miles, that be fun:D

I have a problem while running!
Blisters on the ball of the feet, i can run for 3 miles and then i can feel them starting to develop.
I went to a specialist running shop a few years ago and they put me on the treadmill to analyse my gait and recommended some trainers, they made no diffence.
I also tried every pair of double layered sock on the market, and really thin socks that get wick moisture away from the feet. I've also tried some zinc oxide tape over the areas that get blisters.
None of the above have helped in the slightest! Help me ocuk your my only hope!!!!!

Well something is rubbing :D

How does your shoe fit? Does it press on the ball of your foot? It sounds like the shoe or the insole might not be a very good fit. The support angle is probably correct, but the shape of the shoe or insole might not be. Maybe you have very pronounced balls and you might need to try a custom insole. Meant in the nicest possible way of course :D

Just to confirm how a running shoe should fit: Your sock should fit your foot snugly and not move around. The outside of your sock should then be free enough to slide inside your shoe, not your foot sliding inside the sock. If the shoe is tight then it doesn't fit properly or you've got it laced up too tight. Obviously, the shoe should also be comfortable and not feel alien on the end of your foot.

did the 100k, first 50k went very well thankfully, but around the 38k mark my feet got wet and didnt manage to take them out of the shoes and dry them off....

So at 50k had to burst some very nice blisters and man up to carry on with the last 50k...something which i dont fancy having to go through again, so lesson learnt and hopefully someone will read this and remember themselfs if they go through simular situation.

DRY YOUR FEET ASAP ONCE WET.:D

plan on doing another 100k or something simular but will plan to use my x talons 212s rather than my nike shoes which didnt do very well.

still enjoyed it for the most part, currently wishing the blisters to heal fast so i can run asap.
