PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS - Thread

Does this have stats? or is it similar to Dayz?

Do you just pick up cosmetic clothing, and random weapons and then kill anyone? I'm failing to see what I need to do.

Im with ya. Just started myself so basically so this is how i do it - yup leap out of the plane. Dont leave first unless you want to be in a pvp fest, thats for later. Let it go a bit and then jump, aim for a group of buildings and land.

Check for other parachutes. Anyone landing closeby is going to be your first problem. Sprint into the nearest building and get a gun. Any gun. Stop for a second and listen for footsteps. If nothing, start collecting gear. Priorities are a long gun for assault (like an M16 or AK), a close gun for defense (shotgun or uzi), a backpack, first aid gear (and energy drinks), a helmet and some kind of vest. Youve got a couple of minutes.

Check your map. The big white circle is where you need to be where the countdown finishes. Youll see notifications for it, telling you how long you got. Eventually youll see a big blue circle shrinking towards the white. If youre caught by the big blue circle youll start losing health. Its a shimmering forcefield that pretty obvious. Get into the white circle to stay alive. Theres also red circles that appear every now and then - thats a bombardment. Ive been caught in a couple inside buildings and havent been killed yet, so id say get into a building.

Of course everyone else is heading to the white circle. Lots will die. Once in the white circle, it will shrink to about half the size and another countdown begins. Lots more wil die. Basically at each stage people will camp in the circles and kill anyone trying to get in. Eventually the circle will shrink to the point that the last two will be standing next to each other. At any point one person is left, yay they win.

Some quick tips - vehicles are bloody dangerous, they can be heard from miles off, avoid the roads if you have to use one and dont drive one up to a building. There are loads of mods for the guns, some make them more stable so worth keeping and collecting. A medkit will heal you to 75 percent but youll need energy drinks to heal you more. Bandages will heal you a bit and stop bleeding. The AK with a reddot sight is lovely. You will die lots. The opener before you get into the plane is useful for grabbing a gun and practicing shooting moving targets at a distance. CTRL-T switches off the in-game vox thank god. Get headshots everyone ive met seems to. Sound is king otherwise.

Got to say, its a blast.

This is just my opinion before some weirdos get upset over someone not rating a video game...

I'm baffled, how is this so popular and how on earth have they got away with charging £27.99 for it when it feels and looks like some cheapo arma mod. Literally from the 3 or so hours I've played I'd probably says it's worth about a fiver at best.

the map is terrible, the graphics are shocking, performance is poor (it's early access so fair enough).

It's like playing a bad arma mod minus the things which make arma good (atmosphere, stance adjustmemt etc).

Can someone also explain why Devs of games with big open worlds keep using unreal engine ? The engine seems incapable of rendering anything in the distance with any sort of clarity ? It's bizarre. Image quality is utter turd in every unreal game with long view distances. Squad suffers from same issue.

Seems fun, but another "you need a mic" jobby :/

Ctrl-T mutes in game voice first thing I do when firing up a game, the lobby and plane voice is just toxic, makes xbox live public chat seem mature.

I only ever use voice when talking to friends online either TeamSpeak or discord, in game voice just a nightmare.

I hear you mate.... But you've summed up why you've been let down so much by games in a sentence.... "the map is terrible, the graphics are shocking, performance is poor".

the map is terrible, the graphics are shocking, performance is poor....... Yet game play is absolutely AMAZING. I'd play hello kitty island adventure if my buds were all enjoying it and got over excited about killing the last pink unicorn boss!

So in answer to your question, the reason people RAVE about this game is because sneaking around with your buddy and generally ******* your pants followed by blind panic when see someone is just in describable unless you've done it... Whats more, to then implement some tactics to take down that group is imo one of the most rewarding things i've experienced in a game! In those moments, i can tell you categorically iam not looking at the terrible view distance or the ****** map.... But seriously enjoying the thrill of some awesome team work.

I am a fan boy, i've played Dayz since Vanilla, every mod from then on.... And i've realised its all about the team effort or the slowly slowly sneaky sneaky killy killy when solo.

Fair enough but have these people never played arma or any of its mods ? the gameplay is more or less the same only with worse graphics, worse map, worse movement/animations etc

Literally the only positive thing i can say about it is that the buildings have interiors.

£27.99 is just insanity, that's what slick, ultra polished tripple A games cost... not amateur stuff like this. Still, if people are buying it at that price then fair enough i guess. It's worth maybe £7-10 imo.

+1 This.

Though I would say that I dont find the map all that bad and I dont find the graphics shocking either, I have many many games with worse graphics so I find the description shocking to be a little bit suffering from hyperbole.

But yes, gameplay, as Goon says..I have had more fun in the last month on this game than I have had with a dozen supposed AAA titles in the last 12 months. I have over 60 hours played now, everyone on here is always bleating on about the £ to hour ratio of a game as a way of rating it, so 60 hours so far for £25. Fits WELL within the good value scope of that £ to hour range. I'm not going to get upset with you for your opinion though, there is no game on the market, nor has there been a game in the last 35 years of video games that everyone has liked. Different tastes for different folks.

I've played the Arma Battleroyale mod (essentially done by the same guy who did this of course) , I still prefer this over it. It just has that something, that je ne sais quoi which makes it better imo. Plus with the guy behind the previous battleroyale stuff focusing entirely on this now , imo, it can only get even better.

Each to there own I guess. I find arma engine control to be horrible and for me what puts me off playing anything on that engine.

I don't find the graphcis on PUBG that bed either they do a good enough job.

The map now that I know it better isn't bad either and this won't be the only map.

The concept of it is great, i love this kind of gameplay and teamwork but it's just feels and looks so amateurish to me. I don't even like the arma 3 engine that much, the movement is clunky etc... but it still feels a lot more solid and fluid than PUBG imo.

It also renders stuff at a distance way better, this goes back to my earlier point... why do developers keep using unreal 4 for games which are going to have large engagement distances ? Both PUBG and Squad have huge maps where long range combat is quite regular and yet they decided to use an engine which as far as i can see is completely hopeless at rendering stuff in the distance with any form of clarity. Seems strange choice but there are obviously reasons for it.
